Abstract: PURPOSE:To evaluate whether scintigraphy with technetium-99m-labeled ceftizoxime ( Tc-CFT to infected sternums was greater than to their non-infected counterparts. Mean counts of radioactivity in bacteria-infected sternal regions (SB and SWB) were significantly higher (p = 0.0007) than those of the respective controls (S and SW). CONCLUSION:Scintigraphy with technetium-99m-labeled ceftizoxime is a method that can potentially detect infection post sternotomy and differentiate from aseptic inflammation in animal… Show more

“…There was visible uptake of tracer in areas of skull, liver, stomach, kidney, and bladder. The results of biodistribution and scintigraphy of newly developed tracer were found in good agreement with clinically approved infection diagnostic radiotracer, Infecton®, and many other newly developed radiotracers with reference to the relative uptake in different body organs …”

“…Scintigraphic images revealed a higher levels of radioactivity, expressed as number of counts, in the region of interest of infected rats (12,258.2 ± 1729 counts/10 min) than control counterparts (4920.6 ± 562.9) in different time points after injection. This result confirmed that 99m Tc-ceftizoxime is a potential antimicrobial agent, which detects infection post sternotomy [85]. …”

“…According to the literature, labeled antibiotic agents could demonstrate acceptable and promising sensitivity in detecting a wide variety of septic lesions [19][20][21][22][23][24] . Ofloxacin is a synthetic fluoroquinolones derivative with potent bactericidal activity against a wide spectrum of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria 25,26 .…”
