Tomographic imaging of fragmented cortical bone heteroimplant and methylmethacrylate in segmental bone defect of rabbit tibia

Abstract: PURPOSE:To evaluate the performance of composites consisting of fragmented cortical bone heteroimplant in association with methylmethacrylate preserved in 98% glycerin, in segmental bone defect of rabbit tibia medial metaphysis. METHODS:In this study were used twelve adult New Zealand rabbits, divided into three groups of four animals each: G30 (30 days), G60 (60 days) and G90 (90 days). The bone defects previously created in the tibia were filled with composites and both were evaluated by cone-beam computed t… Show more

“…Twenty eight percent of the rats from Se group (because they were isolated in individual cages) presented eruptions on skin at the final week of the study, as a result of absence hygiene, motivated by the absence of contact with other animal of the same species. Due to this, it was managed a daily treatment with rifamycin (Rifocina Spray, Sanovi Aventis, Sao Paulo, Brazil) until the induction of death and it was guaranteed that the use of this medicine did not influence on the results of this study, according to studies of bone repair where it look for infections prevention of the surgical region 54 . All the animals were on good health and well treated before the palliative treatment with rifamycin.…”

“…A retirada dos pontos ocorreu por volta do 12º dia e não foi observado deiscência de ferida e sinal que caracterizasse processo infeccioso, demonstrando que não só a técnica de esterilização, mas também o manejo das feridas, foram eficientes (Freitas et al 2014).…”

“…On the other hand, PMMA is almost a bioinert biomaterial, has low cost, easy moldability, high availability, excellent mechanical and physical properties with functional characteristics (gradient, porosity, permeability, impregnation) for in-situ use during the surgical act 5 , 13 , 16 , 26 .…”
