Does rosmarinic acid underestimate as an experimental cardiovascular drug?

Abstract: PURPOSE:The rationale of the present review is to analize the activity of Rosmarinus officinalis in the the cardiovascular system METHODS: A MEDLINE database search (from January 1970 to December 2011) using only rosmarinic acid as searched term. RESULTS:The references search revealed 509 references about rosmarinic acid in 40 years (the first reference is from 1970). There is a powerful prevalence of antioxidant and cancer studies. Other diseases are few cited, as inflammation, brain (Alzheimer and Parkinson … Show more

“…Furthermore, RA reduced extracellular regulated kinases (ERK) 1/2, PMA-stimulated p38, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) phosphorylation. These results support the upcoming use of RA as an anti-sEPCR shedding reagent against IL-1β, TNF-α, PMA, and CLP-mediated EPCR shedding [55,56].…”

“…Many trials were carried out to determine the dependency and functionality of RA and its supplementation in animal and poultry diets. There are many studies on the anti-oxidant and anti-cancer effects of RA; however, reports on its activities as an anti-inflammatory, anti-Alzheimer, anti-allergy or anti-diabetic agent are few (Ferreira et al , 2013). Ozturk et al (2014) reported a reduction in circulatory levels of creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, focal glomerular necrosis, dilatation of Bowman's capsule, degeneration of tubular epithelium and tubular dilatation in unilaterally nephrectomized rats treated with RA.…”

“…It is usually discovered in species of the Boraginaceae family and the subfamily Nepetoideae of the Lamiaceae family (Petersen and Simmonds, 2003). RosA's presence in medicinal plants, herbs, and spices is linked to beneficial and health-promoting effects (Ferreira et al, 2013). In plants, RosA is considered to be a cumulative defense compound, while in human, RosA has many biological activities, including antiviral, antibacterial, antioxidant, antimutagenic, and anti-inflammatory activities (Elufioye and Habtemariam, 2019).…”
