Abstract: PURPOSE:To investigate the efficacy and the feasibility of application of percutaneous lysis of epidural adhesions in failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) using a stiff type guide wire and 4F vascular catheter. METHODS: Ninety two patients with FBSS were randomly divided into two groups, the control group (treated by injection dexamethasone only) and percutaneous lysis of epidural adhesions group. Visual analog scale scores (VAS) and therapeutic evaluation were observed in the preoperative, seven days postopera… Show more

“…The addition of hyaluronidase to an epidural steroid injection was found to lead to lower pain intensity at 4 weeks and 12 months, and a combination of hyaluronidase and triamcinolone provided more effective pain relief for 12 weeks than either agent alone. Two trials reported that adding percutaneous adhesiolysis to an epidural injection led to better pain relief at 6 months and 12 months after treatment.…”

“…The only level A evidence concerned epidural adhesiolysis, although its duration was relatively short (6 to 24 months). Two RCTs showed the effectiveness of epidural adhesiolysis compared to epidural steroid injection (69,70,71). Both studies also revealed the statistical difference in pain relief and functional outcome between the 2 groups.…”

“…Nine studies were evaluated in order to reveal the effectiveness of epidural adhesiolysis for FBSS (9,31,(69)(70)(71)(72)(73)(74)(75)(76). Among these, only 5 studies were included in synthetic qualitative analysis (9,69-72,75).…”

“…Moreover, other drugs and proteins are used to prevent post‐operative skeletal fibrosis, including simvastatin, rosuvastatin, resveratrol and all‐trans retinoic acid, verapamil, melatonin, taurine, citicoline, pentoxifylline and transduction with lentivirus carrying extracellular signal‐regulated kinase 2 . Additionally, oral application of pentoxifylline and percutaneous lysis of epidural fibrosis have achieved success in patients.…”
