Omeprazole and misoprostol for preventing gastric mucosa effects caused by indomethacin and celecoxib in rats

Abstract: The indomethacin on the applied concentration causes a great number of macroscopic and microscopic injuries to gastric mucosa of rats when compared to celecoxib which does not cause lesions. Omeprazole and misoprostol on the applied concentrations do not present macroscopic and microscopic effectiveness on the gastric cytoprotection when applying indomethacin. “…Drugs were administered by oral gavage using modified insulin syringes. Since the body weights of animals ranged from (197-205 g), fixed doses of the indometacin were given [6] as follow: indometacin 25mg/rat, by suspending one capsule of indometacin (Indylon 25mg, Medochemie, Cyprus), in 1 ml distilled water, and misoprostol tablet (Cytotec 200 µg, Searle, UK), suspended in 10ml distilled water, and administered in a dose of 20 µg /rat.
