a b s t r a c tObjective: The purpose of this experimental study was to compare the inflammatory and wound healing response of dogs submitted to colonic anastomosis with and without preoperative retrograde enema. Methods:The study included two groups of 31 female dogs (Canis familiaris). G-I (control): no preoperative bowel preparation; G-II (study): preoperative retrograde enema using a 10% glycerin solution. All the animals were submitted to laparotomy and colotomy at 20 cm from the anal verge, followed by closure with a running extramucosal single-layer suture (Prolene ® 000). The animals were then anesthetized and euthanized on the 7th (n = 10) or 21st (n = 20) postoperative day (POD) to remove the anastomosed colon segment for histological and immunohistochemical analysis evaluating the parameters: anastomotic edema, vasoproliferation, abdominal adhesions, type I and III collagen, nitric oxide and myeloperoxidase.The observed differences were analyzed with the Mann-Whitney test for nonparametric data and Student's t test for unpaired samples and parametric data.Results: One animal from G-I and one from G-II died on POD 7 and POD 10 due to anastomotic complications and sepsis, respectively. PURPOSE: Analyze the mechanical strength of digestive tract scar after intestinal anastomosis surgery in animals treated with pure Copaíba oil. METHODS: 60 Wistar rats, male, about 250 days old and weighting around 350g were used. The rats were randomly divided into two groups: Group O, with 30 animals that received Copaíba oil and Group C, with 30 animals that received saline. Each group was subdivided into three subgroups, containing 10 rats each. They were designated O7, O14, O28, C7, C14 and C28, according to the post-operative assessment date at 7, 14 and 28 days, respectively. On these dates euthanasia was performed with the removal of the bowel segment containing the anastomosis and assigning the samples to tensile test for assessing Maximum Stress, Maximum Tensile Strength and Maximum Rupture Strength. RESULTS: On the three variables of the study, the results indicate that, for the three assessment periods (7, 14 and 28 days) there was no significant difference between the oil and control groups. CONCLUSION: For the mechanical tests proposed by this study, Copaíba oil didn´t show any effectiveness in increasing the anatomosis strength.

R E S U M OMyracrodruon urundeuva Fr. All. é uma espécie pertencente à família Anacardiaceae, cuja planta pode ser utilizada como medicinal, na indústria de curtimento de couro, na regeneração de áreas degradadas e para aproveitamento madeireiro. Diante disso, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o potencial fisiológico dos frutos e sementes de M. urundeuva, oriundos de lotes colhidos no mês de setembro no ano de 2012 e armazenados até setembro de 2013, em ambiente não controlado, com a utilização de diferentes substratos e estruturas (exocarpo e mesocarpo). Os parâmetros avaliados com as unidades de propagação foram o teste de germinação e a condutividade elétrica. No teste de germinação, os frutos e sementes foram colocados para germinar nos substratos de areia grossa lavada, entre papel e em vermiculita, em caixas gerbox, em germinador, sob temperatura constante de 25 °C e fotoperíodo de 8 h de luz. Em condições de laboratório, a maior geminação ocorreu para frutos nos substratos papel e vermiculita, porém, a perda de eletrólitos foi maior nos lotes de frutos do que nos lotes de sementes. O armazenamento das sementes e dos frutos de M. urundeuva, em condições ambientais, mostrou-se inadequado para a conservação das características de vigor das unidades de propagação.Palavras-chave: Anacardiaceae, frutos, germinação, sementes. A B S T R A C TMyracrodruon urundeuva Fr. All. is a species of the Anacardiaceae family, whose plant can be used as medicine, in the leather tanning industry, in the regeneration of degraded areas and for timber use. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological potential of the fruits and seeds of M. urundeuva, coming from lots harvested in September in 2012 and stored until September 2013, under uncontrolled conditions, with the use of different substrates and structures (exocarp and mesocarp). The parameters evaluated in the propagation units were the germination test and the electrical conductivity. In the germination test, the fruits and seeds were placed to germinate in washed gravel substrates, including paper and vermiculite in gerboxes in germination under constant temperature of 25 °C and photoperiod of 8 h of light. In laboratory conditions, the highest germination rate occurred in the paper and vermiculite, however, the electrolyte loss was higher in fruit lots than in seed lots. The storage of seeds and fruits of M. urundeuva in environmental conditions was inadequate for the preservation of the vigor characteristics of the propagation units.
