The use of satellite images as a complement in irrigation management constitutes a primordial basis in the decision-making process for irrigated agriculture. In this context, the present study aimed to monitor through Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) an irrigated sugarcane field belonging to the Mafambisse company, located at the District of Nhamatanda/Sofala, Republic of Mozambique, and establish its relationship with the crop coefficient established by FAO (kcFAO) and fit a regression model to estimate crop coefficient (kc) from the relationship between NDVI and kcFAO. The study was conducted using a series of Sentinel-2A/MSI images, relative to the period from October 2016 to October 2017. Based on the NDVI images generated, it was possible to monitor the sugarcane crop in the field and analyse the sensitivity of the index to its vegetative vigor. A similar pattern was observed between kcFAO profiles and NDVI values, which allowed the adjustment to be performed, demonstrating that this index is an alternative to obtain the crop coefficient.

Agricultural activity is characterized by an intensive use of capital and a considerable dependence on external financing. Access to credit is often limited by the scarcity of resources and lack of guarantees, seriously affecting the productivity and economic performance of agricultural exploitations. The objective of this paper is to assess the sustainability of agricultural production chain of rice in Latin America using multi-criteria analysis tools to facilitate decision-making through a benchmarking process to contribute to their economic sustainability. The implementation of the model in an exploitation typy depending on financing sources (conservative, intermediate, and innovative) has revealed the conflict between the goals, being the intermediate exploitation, which gets the best results. The conclusions show that the flexibilization of financing options positively affects the economic performance.

O experimento de campo foi conduzido na Fazenda Experimental da Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária do Rio Grande do Norte (EMPARN), no município de Apodi, localizado no estado do Rio Grande do Norte. O período de estudo foi de 11 de agosto a 31 de outubro de 2015, objetivando a determinação do consumo hídrico da cultura do gergelim (Sesamum indicum L) para as condições edafoclimáticas da chapada do Apodi-RN. Os métodos do balanço hídrico no solo e Penman-Montheith e a relação ETo/ETc foram utilizados para estimar a evapotranspiração da cultura (ETc), a evapotranspiração de referência (ETo) e o coeficiente de cultivo (Kc), respectivamente. A cultura do gergelim-BRS Anahi foi irrigada por aspersores com a aplicação de 534,9 mm de água ao longo do ciclo total de cultivo. O ciclo do gergelim foi de 82 dias, distribuídos na Fase I (germinação das plantas até 10% de cobertura do solo), com duração de 13 dias; Fase II (10 % da cobertura do solo ao início da floração), com duração de 22 dias; Fase III (início da floração ao início da maturação dos frutos), com duração de 33 dias; e Fase IVfase final (maturação dos frutos até a colheita), com duração de 14 dias. O consumo hídrico total do ciclo da cultura foi de 502,2 mm. O coeficiente de cultivo (Kc) apresentou valores médios de 0,51; 0,73; 1,03 e 0,59 para as fases I, II, III e IV, respectivamente.
