Brazil is a country with an emerging and rapidly expanding body of scientific research, and is correspondingly experiencing a significant increase in investment in research and researcher training. It is important to verify the quality and reliability of the knowledge arising from such research, in terms of integrity and adherence to good scientific practices. The aim of this study was to provide an overview scientific integrity in Brazil through an analysis of studies published in scientific journals. A systematic review of the SciELO, PuBMed, LILACS/ IBECS and Web of Science electronic databases was performed, using keywords to select the relevant studies. Following application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 19 publications were selected and classified into six previously defined categories. However, discussion of scientific integrity remains incipient in Brazil. The subjects discussed were plagiarism and conflicts of interest regarding authorship. Early adherence to principles of integrity are important in the academic training of researchers and young scientists. Keywords: Bioethics. Ethics, research. Scientific integrity review. Torna-se importante verificar a qualidade e confiabilidade do conhecimento produzido, considerando a aderência aos critérios de integridade e às boas práticas científicas. Buscou-se traçar um panorama sobre o tema da integridade científica no Brasil por meio da análise de reflexões e pesquisas publicadas em periódicos científicos. Foi realizada revisão sistemática nos bancos de dados eletrônicos SciELO, PuBMed, Lilacs/Ibecs, Scopus e Web of Science, utilizando-se palavras--chave para capturar os artigos. Após aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, foram selecionadas 19 publicações, agrupadas em seis categorias previamente definidas. A discussão sobre a integridade científica é ainda incipiente no Brasil. Os assuntos mais discutidos foram plágio e conflitos de interesses sobre autoria. To date, plagiarism continues to be a widespread problem in higher education. Deemed to be endemic, researchers continue to examine various aspects of plagiarism, including students' perception, practices, attitudes and reasons for plagiarism, in addressing this growing concern. Most studies, however, tend to examine these aspects independently. This paper reports on a study that examined both the students' attitudes and reasons for plagiarism, particularly among the Technical and Non-Technical programme students. A questionnaire was administered to 120 students, i.e. 60 each from each programme to gather quantitative data on their attitudes and reasons for plagiarising. The study found that students in both groups hold negative attitudes towards plagiarism. They deem it synonymous to cheating in final examinations and advocate severe penalty to offenders who submit free downloaded or purchased articles. However, they disagree on being penalised for permitting their peers to plagiarise their work. Significant differences were found for the latter two attitudes between the groups. Albeit, disfavouring plagiarism, the two most cited reasons that compel students in both groups to plagiarise are their self-inadequacy in writing skills and poor time management, followed by the temptation and opportunity to plagiarise from the internet and to cope with the institutional load. With an understanding of these variables, all parties will be able to make more informed decisions in addressing this malpractice and upholding academic integrity.

El plagio académico es una práctica común entre estudiantes universitarios. Tradicionalmente esta temática ha sido abordada a través de estudios que determinan los factores generadores de la misma, sin ahondar en estrategias efectivas que prevengan dichas prácticas. Por tanto, para este estudio se utilizó una estrategia novedosa llamada i_map, que reduce el plagio académico a través del fortalecimiento de las habilidades de búsqueda y manejo de información, documentación del proceso de investigación y generación de ideas propias por parte del estudiante.El objetivo de este estudio es determinar la efectividad del i_map en la prevención del plagio académico y compararla con estrategias tradicionales como el reforzamiento en el uso de paráfrasis y citas textuales. La investigación fue desarrollada en tres espacios pedagógicos de la Carrera de Ciencias Naturales del CUED-UPNFM, cada espacio fue diferenciado según el tipo de estrategia utilizada (i_map, talleres de paráfrasis y citas textuales, equipo control) para la elaboración de ensayos académicos. En total fueron analizados 74 ensayos. El análisis de los datos fue realizado a través de un ANOVA de factor único y Welch test. Los niveles más bajos de plagio (p=0.0003246) y los valores medios más altos de fuentes académicas citadas (p=0.0100) fueron registrados en los trabajos de los estudiantes que utilizaron el i_map. Este estudio concluye la efectividad, estadísticamente significativa, del uso del i_map en la prevención de plagio académico, por lo que sugerimos la inclusión de esta estrategia como herramienta para prevenir dicha práctica y a la vez mejorar la redacción de asignaciones escritas.
