The semiarid northeast of Brazil contains a unique biome known as caatinga, with a maximum temperature of 40 ºC and a relativity humidity of 56%. The caatinga is characterized by a variety of plants, including Cereus jamacaru Dc (mandacaru), Poincianella microphylla Mart. ex G. Don (catingueira), Pilosocereus gounellei FAC Weber (xique-xique) and Mimosa tenuiflora (Willd.) Poir (jurema preta). Sheep and goat industries are economically strong in that region, despite the fact that caseous lymphadenitis is highly prevalent. The aim of the present study was to assess the survival and biofilm production of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis isolates in the environment and under controlled temperatures (28°C, 37°C and 42°C) under different surfaces (plants, soil, wood, wire and thorns). In addition, we investigated the effects of applying the disinfectants chlorhexidine, hypochlorite and quaternary ammonia in soil, tiles, wood and vegetation cover. Four strains of C. pseudotuberculosis were selected (two from goats and two from sheep) for inoculation according to their in vitro biofilm production. Adherence to microplates was used to assess the biofilm-forming ability of the bacteria. Lower survival rates were observed when isolates of C. pseudotuberculosis were subjected to a temperature of 42°C. In terms of caatinga biome plants, contamination of jurema-preta plants resulted in the lowest survival rates. The disinfectant quaternary ammonia promoted a lower inoculum survival in all surfaces. The disinfectants and the higher temperature contributed to the reduction of biofilm production in isolates of C. pseudotuberculosis. knowledge of these patterns is important for the establishment of disease control measures, given the questionable efficacy of the treatment and the immuno-prophylaxis of caseous lymphadenitis.

Avaliou-se o efeito antimicrobiano in vitro dos extratos etanólicos de Plectranthus neochilus e Cnidoscolus quercifolius de forma isolada e associadas. Na 1ª etapa, utilizaram-se os extratos em concentrações 1%, 2,5%, 5% e 10%. Na 2ª etapa, utilizaram-se apenas extratos brutos. Para o teste de sensibilidade dos extratos, utilizaram-se cepas padrão Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Nas duas etapas, realizaram-se os mesmos testes de sensibilidade. As placas foram semeadas e lidas após 24 horas de incubação em estufa a 37ºC. De acordo com os resultados, conclui-se que não houve atividade bacteriana dos extratos etanólicos estudados isolados, bem como associados diante das cepas padrão de Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli e Pseudomonas aeruginosa nas diferentes metodologias aplicadas quando comparadas com o antibiótico padrão (amicacina).

O objetivo deste artigo foi realizar uma pesquisa de caráter bibliográfico acerca dos estudos desenvolvidos com representantes da família Fabaceae e destacar quais efeitos alelopáticos tais espécies desempenharam sobre outras plantas. Foram listadas 24 espécies de Fabaceae, sendo o gênero Anadenanthera o mais representativo neste artigo, com três espécies estudadas. A partir da análise dos arquivos, foi evidenciado que os representantes da família Fabaceae investigados apresentam em sua composição química substâncias responsáveis por gerar um efeito alelopático sobre outras espécies, caracterizando, dessa forma, uma função ecológica desses vegetais para a constituição dos ecossistemas em que se incluem. Além disso, tal característica pode despontar uma provável utilização desses seres no controle de plantas daninhas, que representam um grande problema para os agricultores. Também foram percebidos com maior frequência estudos voltados ao uso de bioensaios laboratoriais com o uso da espécie Lactuca sativa, noticiando a carência de estudos mais complexos sobre a ação dos aleloquímicos, quando lançados em condições naturais no ambiente. Abstract The objective of this paper was to perform a bibliographic research about the studies carried out with representatives of the Fabaceae family and stress out what allelopathic effects such species develop on other plants. Twenty-four Fabaceae species were listed, being the Anadenanthera genus the most representative in this article, with three species studied. It was noticed in the studies analysis that certain Fabaceae species contain in their chemical composition, substances responsible for an allelopathic effect on other species, characterizing an ecological role of these plants for the ecosystems establishment. This feature can suggest the use of these species in weed control, which represent a problem to farmers. It was seen more often studies focused on the use of laboratory bioassays with Lactuca sativa, reporting the lack of more complex studies on the action of allelochemicals when launched in natural conditions in the environment.
