Abstract: IntroductionThe surgeon's formation process has changed in recent decades. The increase in medical schools, new specialties and modern technologies induce an overhaul of medical education. Medical residency in surgery has established itself as a key step in the formation of the surgeon, and represents the ideal and natural way for teaching laparoscopy. However, the introduction of laparoscopic surgery in the medical residency programs in surgical specialties is insufficient, creating the need for additional tr… Show more

“…It should be emphasized, however, that there is still a well-designed teaching model proven to be effective in the preparation of residents for skills acquisition in advanced laparoscopic techniques outside the operating room implemented in surgical residences in Brazil. Nacul et al 1 reviewed the situation of teaching in video surgery in services that published their methods in Brazil, concluding that there is a great deficit in the training and training in video surgery in the different specialties, which is reflected in the large learning curves 1 .…”

“…In the area of healthcare, it aims to reproduce the essential aspects of a clinical scenario, increasing the possibility of success in a real clinical context 1 . Realistic simulation has emerged as a tool for learning in video surgery, performed in an accessible, safe, controlled and standardized environment, which aims to improve skills and transfer them to the operating room, promoting an increase in the learning curve 2 .…”

“…With this prerogative in mind, it is proposed that the training be done in simulators using artificial models or in isolated organs/parts that simulate the surgical needs and thus be more realistic. In this way, the surgeon’s ability to transform the future operative procedure with greater patient safety is promoted 1 , 6 , 2 . There is a tendency in more current training to use synthetic devices - generally reusable - easy to access and storage, to not enter into the bioethical merit when using biological material for training 3 , 4 , 5 .…”

“…Throughout past decades, laparoscopy (LP) became the first access choice for different procedures and specialties, as it provides, among other advantages, faster recovery, less pain and lower hospitalization length to the patients, in a way that there has been an increase in the use of minimally invasive access routes in surgery. 1,2 To be able to perform a laparoscopic surgery, a learning curve is required, as there is a need to develop and improve nonintuitive psychomotor functions, such as performing tasks under indirect vision and proprioception and handling with laparoscopic graspers. 3,4 It is crucial to all learning surgeons to practice these basic abilities before applying them to their patients.…”
