Abstract: O texto discute o significado da Rio 92 a partir de uma análise crítica tanto das teorias das relações internacionais (idealismo e realismo) como também da prática do movimento ambientalista. Apesar do decepcionante resultado da UNCED na definição de mecanismos de financiamento de políticas ecológicas globais, instalou-se uma nova forma de atuação dos movimentos ecológicos, baseada em uma ética comunicativa que equilibra os princípios idealistas e realistas.
