In the northeastern region of the Brazilian state of Pará, approximately 90% of the forested areas are secondary forests. Secondary forests are interesting areas for floristic studies aimed at determining the effects that clear-cutting has on bryophyte communities. The aim of this study was to compare upland forests at different successional stages and the various strata of host trees, in terms of the bryophyte species composition. Bryophyte specimens were collected between August 2005 and September 2006 from host trees in primary and secondary forests of different ages and of different heights, within the municipality of Capitão Poço, in the state of Pará. The vertical distribution of bryophytes was evaluated in 15 host trees within the primary forest. We identified a total of 99 bryophyte species: 33 mosses and 66 liverworts. The dominant family was Lejeuneaceae, with 56 species. Most of the species (n = 60) had a neotropical distribution, and 3 species were endemic to Brazil. Cololejeunea minutissima var. myriocarpa (Nees & Mont.) R.M.Schust., Pycnolejeunea papillosa X.-L. He, Radula mammosa Spruce and Verdoornianthus marsupiifolius (Spruce) Gradst. represent new records for the state of Pará. In the successional forests evaluated, we identified 78 species, most of which (n = 38) occurred in primary forest. On the host tree trunks evaluated in the primary forest, we observed 31 species occurring at heights ranging from 2 m to 20 m. Despite the fact that secondary forests account for such a large proportion of the forested areas in Capitão Poço, we found that the bryoflora was relatively rich, comprising 31% of the species recorded for the state. The fact that 40% of the species recorded occurred exclusively in the secondary forests and the fact that 45.5% of the species recorded in primary forest occurred within the 2-20 m height range show the importance of studies focusing on bryophytes in secondary forests and in the upper strata of host trees in primary forests.

-(Bryoflora of Gallery Forest in Quirinópolis, Goiás State, Brazil). This study provides a survey of the bryophytes in gallery forest in the municipality of Quirinópolis, Goiás State, Brazil. Samples were collected monthly from April 2012 to July 2013. The substrate colonization and frequency of species were analyzed. The material was collected according to the usual procedures and is deposited at HerbJAR of UEG. We found 38 species of bryophytes (25 mosses and 13 liverworts). The richest families were Hypnaceae for mosses and Lejeuneaceae for liverworts, with five and seven species recorded, respectively. Isopterygium tenerum (Sw.) Mitt. was the most frequent species, and has a wide distribution in Brazil. Dicranodontium pulchroalare subsp. brasiliense (Herzog) J.-P.Frahm is a new record for the Cerrado, and Philonotis sphaericarpa (Hedw.) Brid., Lejeunea caulicalyx (Steph.) E. Reiner, and L. quinque-umbonata Spruce are new records for Goiás State. O presente estudo objetivou realizar um levantamento da brioflora em mata de galeria no município de Quirinópolis, Goiás. As coletas foram realizadas mensalmente de abril de 2012 a julho de 2013. Foram analisadas a colonização do substrato e a frequência das espécies. O material coletado foi herborizado conforme os procedimentos usuais e está depositado no HerbJAR da UEG. As identificações foram feitas por especialistas. Foram encontradas 38 espécies de briófitas (25 musgos e 13 hepáticas). As famílias mais ricas foram Hypnaceae para musgos e Lejeuneaceae para hepáticas, com cinco e sete espécies registradas, respectivamente. Isopterygium tenerum (Sw.) Mitt. foi a espécie mais frequente, o qual apresenta ampla distribuição no Brasil. Dicranodontium pulchroalare subsp. brasiliense (Herzog) J.-P.Frahm é um novo registro para o bioma Cerrado, e Philonotis sphaericarpa (Hedw.) Brid., Lejeunea caulicalyx (Steph.) E. O presente trabalho documenta o inventário da brioflora da Estação Científica Ferreira Penna (ECFPn), localizada na FLONA Caxiuanã (1°42'30"S -51°31'45"W), Melgaço -Pará, realizado por ocasião da primeira chamada do Programa de Residência em Estudos Amazônicos, iniciativa do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. Musgos e Hepáticas foram amostrados nos ecossistemas de mata de terra firme, várzea, igapó, capoeiras e campina, e analisadas quanto à composição, riqueza e diversidade. Foram registradas 1081 ocorrências de briófitas de 120 espécies, sendo 79 hepáticas e 41 musgos, das quais oito hepáticas são novas referências para o Estado do Pará. As famílias de maior riqueza e assiduidade foram Lejeuneaceae (58 spp.), Calymperaceae (13 spp.), Sematophyllaceae (9 spp.) e Plagiochilaceae (7 spp.). As comunidades que melhor se fizeram representar foram a epífita (97 espécies/ 565 ocorrências) e a epíxila (65 spp./ 242 ocorr.), seguidas pelas comunidades epífila (27 spp./ 174 ocorr.) e terrícola (15 spp./ 96 ocorr.) e o ecossistema que apresentou maior riqueza e diversidade foi mata de terra firme. Quanto à composição nos substratos inventariados, foi observada uma inversão gradativa na proporção de riqueza entre hepáticas/ musgos, sendo as primeiras fortemente dominantes em folha, moderadamente dominantes em tronco vivo e morto, ao passo que musgos predominaram nos demais. Os resultados obtidos neste inventário, inclusive as novas referências para o Estado, contribuem para o entendimento dos padrões de riqueza e diversidade na Floresta Amazônica e enriquecem a flora conhecida para o Estado do Pará. One thousand eighty one occurrences of 120 Bryophytes species (79 liverworts and 41 mosses) were recorded; and among them eight liverworts are new references from the state of Pará. The richest and most frequently encountered families were Lejeuneaceae (58 spp.), Calymperaceae (13 spp.), Sematophyllaceae (9 spp.) and Plagiochilaceae (7 spp.).
