Abstract: O território de Fernando de Noronha localiza-se a 32º 25'30" W de longitude e 3º 50' 10" S de latitude e é composto por 21 ilhas. Show more

“…According to Costa et al (2012) and Cleto (2013) the biodiversity was changed with exotic trees to Fernando de Noronha, resulting from anthropic actions. In a study by Silva Júnior et al (1987), the low floristic diversity was observed, as evidenced by the Shannon index of H'=1.95. This is an expected feature for island ecosystems, where natural colonization depends on seed dispersal, dispersion agents, seed viscosity, distance from the dispersion center, and other factors (MELLO, 2014).…”

“…After its colonization in 1737 (Teixeira et al 2003), there was a gradual increase in habitat degradation with the suppression of most of the original vegetation. The southwestern portion, where Ponta da Sapata is located, was better preserved, with the natural habitats less altered (Silva Júnior et al 1987;Funatura 1990;Batistella 1996;Freitas 2007). This certainly contributed to the maintenance of the two populations of C. insularis.…”

“…Preliminary field observations at Fernando de Noronha indicated that the exotic species appears to exclude most native species and only a few persist in the patches where L. leucocephala is dominant. On the other hand, several native species cooccur in uninvaded communities in the island, in spite of the usual low community diversity of islands compared to continental areas (Silva Júnior et al 1988;Batistella 1996). ).…”
