Show more

“…This outcome reinforces the feasibility of using this additive to reduce the fiber levels, which would be a nutritionally favorable characteristic to animal intake, since the sugarcane fiber has low degradability (ROMÃO et al, 2013;ROMÃO et al, 2014), which contributes to the reduction of intake due to the physical filling.…”

“…The use of chemical additives in the ensiling of tropical forages has been tested for over two decades (Felix & Funso, 1994;Mahouachi, Haddad, Kayouli, Théwis, & Beckers, 2003;Miron, Kabala, Tockb, & Ben-Ghedalia, 1995), and the improvement and efficiency of production of preserved roughages (Nkosi et al, 2016;Roth et al, 2016) have been gradually contributing to animal production. Romão et al (2013), Chizzotti et al (2015) and Martins et al (2015) investigated and described the use of urea and calcium oxide as alkalinizing chemical additives in the ensiling of sugarcane.…”

“…In this sense, in relation to chopped sugarcane in natura, Romão et al (2013) observed a reduction in the content of the A + B1 fractions of carbohydrates when the sugarcane was hydrolyzed with 0.75% CaO. In addition to this, increases were observed in these contents when 2.25-4.0% of CaO was used in the hydrolysis.…”
