The influence of transport stress in the presence of Campylobacter spp. and the antimicrobial resistance profile were evaluated in feces of 60 pigs. The samples were collected at the finishing farm and after transport to the slaughterhouse, totaling 120 samples. Isolation was performed by plaque culture and identification of the species was obtained by biochemical tests confirmed with the PCR technique. Campylobacter spp. was isolated in 63.3% of the collected samples at the farm and 91.6% at the slaughterhouse, evidencing the influence of transport stress on the increase of the isolates (P<0.05). The species C. coli biotype I, C. jejuni biotype I and C. jejuni subsp. doylei were identified, with C. coli being more prevalent on the farm and C. jejuni in the slaughterhouse. Bacterial resistance was observed for all six classes of antibiotics tested. Among them, the isolates presented greater resistance to lincomycin, tetracycline and nalidixic acid (98.9%), and greater sensitivity to amoxicillin (22.5%). The strains of C. coli showed higher antimicrobial resistance than those of C. jejuni (P<0.05). The results of this study point to the high isolation rates of C. coli and C. jejuni in pig feces destinated for slaughter and possible risks related to meat consumption. The high standards of resistance address the risk to public health.

RESUMODoença bacteriana zoonótica, a campilobacteriose é responsável mundialmente por frequentes casos de gastroenterite humana. Campylobacter spp. apresenta fator de virulência associado à diarreia, denominado toxina citoletal distensiva (CDT), sendo codificado pelos genes do complexo cdt. Os objetivos do presente estudo foram: 1) isolar e identificar estirpes de Campylobacter spp. de 102 suabes de carcaças e 102 suabes retais de ovinos (Ovis aries) e de sete amostras de água dos efluentes, antes e depois do tratamento de desinfecção de abatedouro localizado no estado de São Paulo; e 2) detectar, pela técnica de multiplex-PCR, a presença do complexo de genes cdt. Foram isoladas e identificadas, por métodos fenotípicos e genotípicos, sete estirpes de Campylobacter coli provenientes de 4/102 (3,92%) das amostras de suabes retais, 1/102 (0,98%) de suabes de carcaças e 2/7 (28,5%) das águas dos efluentes. Dos isolados de suabes retais, em 2/7 (28,6%) estirpes foi detectada a presença dos genes cdt. Trata-se do primeiro relato de isolamento de estirpes de Campylobacter coli provenientes de abatedouro de ovinos e das estirpes portadoras do complexo de genes cdt nessa espécie animal no Brasil.

Campylobacter jejuni is a bacteria that is involved in the causality of several pathologies, from asymptomatic cases and others with great amplitude to the propensity of death. Its form of acquisition is facilitated, and the human being can become infected by the consumption of contaminated water and food, prepared incorrectly or under poor hygiene techniques. Because it has the possibility of adhesion and synthesis of toxins, there is a large-scale increase in its potential for pathogenicity. In Brazil, this microorganism is detected in cases of gastroenteritis in children. In developed countries it is the main cause of traveler's diarrhea. This work addresses the morphological characteristics of Campylobacter jejuni, its virulence and epidemiology factor, in addition to the possible diseases caused. To carry out the research, a literature review was carried out, based on publications indexed in the databases: Scielo Google Scholar and Pubmed, published between 2010 and 2020. The descriptors used were: Campylobacter Infections; Gastroenteritis; Campylobacter jejuni, where there were 731 articles, with only 44 selected. The Polymerase Chain Reaction, for measuring the genes of the CDT, is a differential for infectious, always combined with other laboratory and clinical data for a conclusive diagnosis. The use of antimicrobials for the treatment, prevention and / or growth of animals for slaughter has led to an increase in cases of resistance related to microbiota, including C. jejuni.
