Show more

“…However it's underutilization of the space can reduce the efficiency of production (Gonçalves Junior et al, 2014;Dias et al, 2016). Furthermore, the use of inappropriate stocking densities may lead to increase competition for space, food and oxygen (Faria et al, 2011), reduce water quality and resulted on a chronic stress response which can, consequently, cause fish growth impairment (Gonçalves Junior et al, 2013;Abe et al, 2016). Thus, determining the adequate stocking density for each species and life stage is fundamental to optimize productivity, without compromising animal welfare and growth (Abe et al, 2019).…”

“…The superiority of Pseudoplatystoma hybrids is generally accepted among fish farmers; nonetheless, it can be controversial when some scientific data are considered; for example, the growth performance of the hybrid is superior to the parental spotted sorubim (Crepaldi et al ., 2003), but the growth performance and the morphometric traits of the same hybrid over the juvenile phase were similar to the parental barred sorubim (Fantini et al ., 2019). Nonetheless, the rearing of hybrids is increasing among fish farmers not only for the growth characteristics but also for the possibilities of selecting strains with better survival rates and other pertinent, zootechnical indices (Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária, 2015; Faria et al ., 2011). To date, few research studies have been done to understand or even to describe the morphophysiological differences between pure species and their hybrids.…”
