Five experiments were conducted to estimate the digestible threonine requirements of slow-growing broilers: experiment 1, starter phase (days 10 to 28); experiment 2, grower I phase (days 29 to 49); experiment 3, grower II phase (days 50 to 69); experiment 4, finisher phase (days 70 to 84); and experiment 5, which was specifically conducted to determine the production of intestinal mucin over two periods (days 50 to 69 and 70 to 84). Different birds were used in all experiments. A completely randomized design with five treatments and four replicates was used. Treatments consisted of increasing the values of digestible threonine in the diet through basal feed supplementation with L-threonine (98.5%), which was added instead of cornstarch. The following values of digestible threonine were investigated: 0.622, 0.697, 0.772, 0.847, and 0.922% in experiment 1; 0.586, 0.662, 0.738, 0.814, and 0.890% in experiment 2; 0.570, 0.640, 0.71, 0.780, and 0.850% in experiments 3 and 5; and 0.520, 0.595, 0.670, 0.745, and 0.820% in experiments 4 and 5. The digestible threonine values presented quadratic effects on feed conversion ratio in experiments 1, 2, and 3. Digestible threonine values of 0.628 and 0.609% resulted in higher villus height and greater duodenal crypt depth, respectively. Digestible threonine values of 0.762, 0.767, and 0.733% may be recommended for the starter, grower I, and grower II phases, respectively, based on the best feed conversion ratio. In addition, a digestible threonine level of 0.694% may be recommended for the finisher phase based on the highest production of intestinal mucin.

Three experiments were conducted to estimate the digestible lysine requirements of slow-growing broilers on their performance, carcass traits, and breast meat quality. Different broilers were evaluated in each experiment. In Experiment 1, broilers were evaluated from 29-49 days of age (grower phase I), in Experiment 2, from 50 to 69 days old (grower phase II), and in Experiment 3, from 70-84 days old (finisher phase). A completely randomized design with five treatments of four replicates each was applied in all experiments. The following dietary digestible lysine values were investigated: 0.871, 1.011, 1.151, 1.291 and 1.431% in Experiment 1; 0.803, 0.943, 1.083, 1.223 and 1.363% in Experiment 2; and 0.766, 0.906, 1.046, 1.186 and 1.326% in Experiment 3. In all three experiments, digestible lysine values quadratically affected feed intake, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. Lysine intake linearly increased with increasing digestive lysine values, whereas lysine utilization efficiency linearly decreased. Lysine requirements for maximum feed intake (1.298, 1.109, 1.150%), weight gain (1.183, 1.199, 1.162%), and feed conversion ratio (1.203, 1.162, 1.126%) were estimated in Experiments 1, 2 and 3. Digestible lysine requirement for carcass yield were estimated as 1.162, 1.068 and 1.107% in experiments 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Lysine influenced the physical-chemical parameters broiler breast meat. Digestible lysine levels of 1.203, 1.162 and 1.126% are recommended in the diets of Redbro Plume broilers during the phases 29-49, 50-69 and 70-84 days of age to optimize feed conversion ratio.

Objetivo. Evaluar la reducción de los niveles de proteína bruta sin alterar la relación de aminoácidos esenciales en pollos de engorde criollos de uno a 42 días de edad. Materiales y métodos. Se realizaron dos ensayos que comprendieron la fase inicial (un a 21 días) y crecimiento (22 a 42 días). Se utilizaron 630 pollos de la línea Redbro de un día de edad, distribuidos en un diseño completamente al azar, con cinco tratamientos y seis repeticiones de 21 aves cada una, totalizando 30 unidades experimentales distribuidas en corrales con buen abrigo. Los niveles reducidos de la proteína bruta para la fase inicial fueron: 21.5; 21.0; 20.5; 20.0 y 19.5% y para la fase de crecimiento: 19.0; 18.5; 18.0; 17.5 y 17.0%. En todos los tratamientos se mantuvo la proporción mínima entre aminoácidos esenciales y lisina. Las características de desempeño evaluadas fueron: ganancia de peso, consumo de alimento y conversión alimenticia. Resultados. No hubo diferencia (p>0.05) en la reducción de proteína bruta para ninguna de las fases, excepto para conversión alimenticia (p<0.05) en la fase de crecimiento que mejoró con 18.2% de proteína bruta. Conclusiones. Los niveles de proteína bruta para pollos criollos de engorde de la línea Redbro, pueden ser reducidos a 19.5 y 18.2% para la fases inicial y de crecimiento, respectivamente, siempre y cuando se mantengan las relaciones adecuadas de aminoácidos con lisina digestible y se atiendan las exigencias de los aminoácidos limitantes.
