Abstract: The use of laparoscopic surgery for the removal of cystic calculi in three dogs was reported. Three trocars were used, one in the ventral midline (10mm) and the others in the right (10mm) and left (5mm) flanks. The calculi were removed and the bladder was sutured with intracorporeal technique in two layers, a simple continuous pattern and interrupted or continuous Lembert pattern. No postoperative complications were observed. One patient had a recurrence of urolithiasis, attributed to inadequate conservative t… Show more

“…ESR and PCV within the normal values, varying non-significantly on day ('0'), 10 and 20 post treatment in all cases. However, in contrary to the present findings, lower per cent eosinophils, monocyte count and PCV was reported by Brun et al, (2008) in dogs with urolihtiais and Roopali et al, (2018) in dogs with cystitis. No comparable reports could be located for comparison of mean values of eosinophills and monocytes (%) in the dogs having masses in the bladder.…”

“…Cystolith removal is reported as incomplete in as many as 42% of cases undergoing open cystotomy . Laparoscopic and laparoscopic‐assisted procedures have been described in dogs, cats, horses, alpacas, and people for cystolith, polyp, and foreign body removal from the urinary bladder . Laparoscopic‐assisted cystotomy decreases postoperative pain and is a viable alternative for removal of uroliths with benefits of improved visualization of the urinary bladder and urethral lumen, and less contamination of the abdominal cavity with urine .…”

“…Barbed suture has similar tensile strength to standard monofilament suture material when applied to porcine skin following surgical incision and are considered a viable alternative for skin closure . Barbed suture has been used experimentally in dogs for closure of enterotomies, incisional gastropexy procedures, tracheal resection and anastomosis, diaphragmatic herniorrhaphy, and closure of the abdominal wall, all with similar results to unbarbed suture material …”

“…Classification of studies by organ system is presented in Tables S1 and S2. Numbers of studies and participants were reported within each organ/system group including female genital tract (22 studies [n = 1407 dogs]), 1,7,11,20,30‐47 urinary tract (7 studies [n = 114]), 3,48‐53 stomach (9 studies [n = 250]), 10,18,54‐59 intestinal tract (5 studies [n = 48]), 60‐64 liver (5 studies [n = 288]), 12,17,65‐67 adrenal gland (5 studies [n = 62]), 13,28,68‐70 spleen (7 studies [n = 111]), 19,71‐76 and other (4 studies that included gastropexy and ovariectomy procedures [n = 148]) 9,77‐79 . One experimental study, in which colopexy in seven male dogs was described, was classified as intestinal tract even though these dogs were also sterilized during the surgical procedure because this study reported only complications and outcomes related to colopexy 63 .…”
