Show more

“…In the uterine tubes the epithelium was characterized as simple ciliated columnar resting on a lamina propria of loose connective tissue (Figure 1). Similar observations were made by Sant' Ana [15] who noted that the mucosa of the uterine tube of adult sows is covered by simple columnar epithelium formed essentially by ciliated cells. In another study, Monteiro [9] reported that the mucosa of the uterine tubes of prepubertal gilts presents areas of simple ciliated columnar epithelium.…”

“…In addition, many studies point out that the lesions in the porcine oviduct are important causes of infertility in this species (Nalbandov 1952; Perry and Pomeroy 1956; Einarsson and Gustafsson 1970; Heinonen et al. 1998; Sant'Ana et al. 2004).…”

“…(2003) showed that lesions diagnosed in sow's oviducts do not reduce the epithelial thickness significantly. In another study, the same authors concluded that morphologic alterations of the sow's oviducts do not reduce the secretion of mucosubstances significantly (Sant'Ana et al. 2004).…”

“…The percentage distribution of ciliated and secretory cells and the secretion pattern of the oviductal mucosa were calculated according to reports by Sant'Ana et al (2004), Gonella‐Diaza et al (2017) and Machado‐Neves et al (2019). The identification of the ciliated cells was based on the presence of cilia and the nucleus in the apical position and the secretory cells with the presence of cytoplasmic protuberances, PAS positive granules and the nucleus in the basal position.…”
