Abstract: A diversidade genética do gênero Capsicum é grande especialmente quanto à cor, forma, textura, tamanho de fruto, aroma, e até mesmo o grau de pungência (picância ou ardência). Esse gênero abriga as pimentas e pimentões, sendo este último a forma mais cultivada do gênero.
