Cory's Shearwater, Calonectris diomedea, is a pelagic seabird that winters in the waters off the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. Elsewhere, its diet is comprised mostly of fish and cephalopods, but dietary details out of the breeding season are unknown. The present study analysed the diet of Cory's Shearwater along the coast of Rio Grande do Sul based on the stomach contents of 185 birds found dead during beach surveys between July 1997 and July 1998. Food items were classified taxonomically and non-food items were categorized. The taxa identified included the cephalopods Argonauta nodosa and Histioteuthis sp. and the fish Paralonchurus brasiliensis, Porichthys porosissimus, and Prionotus punctatus. Cephalopods were present in 97% of stomachs and fish in 33% of stomachs. Synthetic materials were found in 81% of stomachs. Our data corroborate the general ideas of Procellariiform diet during migration. The high amount of synthetic materials indicates the pollution of the marine environments of southern Brazil and we call attention to this situation.

Knowledge of the feeding ecology of fish is essential for understanding the functioning of freshwater communities. Here we report on an analysis of the diet of Pachyurus bonariensis Steindachner, 1879, a freshwater sciaenid. Fish were collected bimonthly from December 1999 to January 2002 at three locations along the Ibicuí River in the Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. At each location, the specimens were collected in both lentic and lotic environments. The stomachs of 324 fish were analysed for contents and fullness. The main items were Ephemeroptera, Diptera (larvae), Trichoptera and Odonata. Annelida, plant matter, Decapoda, Diptera (pupae), Coleoptera and Mollusca were present in small amounts. The fish consumed smaller amounts of food in winter than in other seasons. The most important source of dietary variation for P. bonariensis was the ontogenetic, related to intrinsic biological characters. However, spatial variation was also found, suggesting that this species can adapt its diet to environmental changes. Although P. bonariensis showed ontogenetic and spatial variations in the main items consumed, the main items were always insects, characterising P. bonariensis as a fish with an insectivorous feeding habit in the Ibicuí River.Keywords: feeding activity, diet composition, trophic ecology, insects, fishes. For this, the dietary composition and the feeding activity were studied, and its ontogenetic, seasonal and spatial variations. The ontogenetic, seasonal and spatial variations in trophic spectrum were also investigated to confirm its specialised diet at different situations and to analyse what is the mainly source of dietary variations, those principally due to food availability, seasonal and spatial, or the ontogenetic variation. As comunidades tradicionais do Baixo Amazonas no Pará possuem diversas atividades pesqueiras que geram emprego e renda para os pescadores. Uma dessas é a pesca do camarão-da-amazônia Macrobrachium amazonicum praticada às margens do rio Amazonas, próximo à cidade de Santarém (PA). Este trabalho tem como objetivo registrar a ictiofauna acompanhante da pesca do camarão-da-amazônia, bem como sua relação com a biomassa total, riqueza, captura por unidade de esforço (CPUE) e a proporção de peixes e camarões. Os dados foram coletados por meio do acompanhamento mensal em três armadilhas semi-fixas na área de pesca no período de fevereiro/2018 a janeiro/2019. As informações foram anotadas e organizadas em um banco de dados para facilitar as análises. Foram capturados um total de 2.136 peixes, com ocorrência de 24 famílias e 69 espécies, sendo Colomesus asellus mais abundante e Hypoptopoma elongatum com ocorrência em todos os meses. O comprimento total foi baixo e variou entre 32 e 275 mm, sugerindo a participação de muitas espécies de pequeno porte e/ou indivíduos juvenis, com pouco ou sem valor comercial. A proporção de peixe/camarão foi de 0,02/35,24 kg indicando que 97% da produção pesqueira do camarão é constituída da espécie alvo, contudo, os peixes jovens são descartados geralmente mortos, impactando negativamente seu ciclo. A diversidade e equitabilidade variaram ao longo dos meses, apontando um padrão de distribuição sazonal relacionado ao regime hidrológico da região.
