We present a list of the anuran amphibians of the state of Espírito Santo, southeastern Brazil. The list was compiled from data gathered from fieldwork over the course of the past 20 years in different localities, and from literature records and voucher specimens deposited in scientific collections. Our list comprises 133 species. Patchy sampling efforts and recent species descriptions suggest that the list may increase significantly with further sampling, considering the presence of several geographical gaps. The need for adequate sampling in these gap areas is highlighted.

“…berthalutzae foi registrada somente por sua vocalização, oriunda de um aglomerado de bromélias na Arie Morro do Iririú, sem que o indivíduo fosse localizado. Na região podem ocorrer duas espécies de gênero: D. berthalutzae, associada às áreas florestadas de encosta, onde utiliza bromélias como sítio reprodutivo, e D. leucomystax, com ocorrência associada a áreas de terras baixas, onde usa poças no solo para a reprodução (IZECKSOHN, 1993). Pelo fato de o registro ter ocorrido no local supostamente relacionado a D. berthalutzae, acredita-se que essa seja a espécie registrada, porém há necessidade do registro visual e coleta de indivíduos para a confirmação da identificação.…”

A bacia do Rio Cachoeira encontra-se totalmente dentro do perímetro urbano do município de Joinville, onde restam pequenos fragmentos de mata atlântica localizados principalmente em morros. Em uma parceria com a Secretaria do Meio Ambiente (Sema), Comitê Cubatão-Cachoeira Joinville (CCJ) e a Universidade da Região de Joinville (Univille), realizou-se um diagnóstico ambiental dessa bacia, que teve, como um dos objetivos, inventariar a herpetofauna ocorrente na região. Realizaram-se duas campanhas de campo no ano de 2016, e seis áreas foram amostradas. Para o registro das espécies utilizaram-se armadilhas do tipo “pitfall” em três dessas áreas e, em todas, foram realizadas transecções diurnas e noturnas visando à procura ativa de espécimes para registros visuais e auditivos. Registraram-se 54 espécies da herpetofauna, sendo 36 espécies de anfíbios e 18 de répteis. A área com maior riqueza apresentou 40 espécies, e aquela com menor, 14. Espera-se que tais dados possam auxiliar nas tomadas de decisões em relação à conservação da herpetofauna e das áreas verdes no município de Joinville, podendo assim unir desenvolvimento urbano e conservação ambiental, além de incentivar a educação ambiental e mais pesquisas com esse grupo faunístico na região.

A new species of the tree toad genus Dendrophryniscus is described from a rainforest habitat at Parque Nacional de Serra das Lontras, municipality of Arataca, southern Bahia, Brazil. Dendrophryniscus oreites sp. nov. is related to the Atlantic forest brevipollicatus group by hand morphology, skin texture, ventral coloration and bromelicolous habits. The new species differs from related species by having a larger size, warty skin, inner finger reduced with presence of a dark nuptial pad in males, and a yellowish coloration with discrete dorsal pattern. This discovery highlights the importance of southern Bahia in terms of conservation, and for our understanding of the evolution of the frog diversity within the Atlantic Rainforest.
