A economia dos Estados Unidos passou por uma grande crise econômico-financeira iniciada no ano de 2008, a chamada crise do subprime. O desencadear desta crise coincidiu com a posse do primeiro presidente negro da história dos Estados Unidos, o democrata Barack Obama. Sua administração teve então que lidar com os eventos subsequentes originados pela crise, particularmente mediante a aplicação de políticas econômicas bastante heterodoxas no campo monetário e fiscal. A partir de uma contextualização histórica, de uma discussão da bibliografia e de uma análise de documentos e dados oficiais, o artigo avalia a política econômica adotada nos Estados Unidos durante a primeira administração de Barack Obama (2009-2012), sob uma abordagem histórico-econômica.
