Liquidez internacional e ciclo reflexo: algumas observações para a América Latina

The international financial instability of the 1990 has been analysed in several occasions on Minskyan perspectives. The paper is based on this theoretical approach and intends to demonstrate that the financial fragility hypothesis is very useful to the analysis of the cycle in peripheral economies, which real performance is associated to the availability of international liquidity. The analysis is based on three Latin American count… Show more

“…Indeed, several studies have sought to use such an approach to understanding the causes of currency crises, especially in developing countries (Gray;Gray, 1994;Lopez, 1997;Dymski, 1998;Alves Jr., 1999;Glickman, 2002;Kregel, 2004;Tonveronachi, 2006;Resende;Amado, 2007).…”

“…The solvency position of units that relate to foreigners, whether countries or active members of an economy, is not only related to its ability to honor its commitments, but to its ability to generate foreign debts to enable this payment, a problem that has a macroeconomic nature and transcends the issue of vulnerability analysis in the individual project (Resende;Amado, 2007). Under these conditions, international creditors observe both the project cash fl ow as what they perceive as the external vulnerability of the country on the availability of hard currency and, from there, establish their offer of resources and defi ne the required profi tability Mollo;Biage, 2008).…”

“…This perspective is normally associated with the integration of the real side in a center-periphery model. It shows the importance of the state as the only agent capable of breaking the vicious circles that characterize center-periphery relations (Dow 1982;Amado 1997;Rodriguez-Fuentes 2005;Resende and Amado 2007).…”
