Show more

“…We were expecting in marketed pineapple juice (being a concentrated juice with no sugar added) the same profile of fresh fruit, but in the last one sucrose is the most abundant sugar, more than the double, followed by fructose and glucose. Although our data on fresh fruit are aligned to those of other authors [20], and experiments were repeated on three different aliquot of the same fruit, other test should be done on different pineapple fruits before giving definitive conclusions.…”

“…These wastes were chosen because i) Brazil is the third largest producer of pineapple (Ananas comosus) with around 7% of the world production what represents the world's fifth tropical fruit in harvested area. In the pineapple fruit, the crown corresponds to about 25 wt % and it is disposed as waste [4][5][6] ; ii) rice is the third largest cereal crop of the world and the major staple diet which supplies 77.90 kg / capita / year of Asia population in 2007 [7] . The rice husk is a by-product generated abundantly from rice milling industries and corresponds to about 20 wt % of the total rice production 7,8 .…”

“…The six pineapple tissues, namely tillers, inflorescent, flower, mature fruit, ripen fruit, and overripe fruit (Figure 1) were first categorised as hard or soft tissues. Hard tissues (tillers, inflorescence, and flowers) typically are composed of a thick lignified wall (Yahia & Carrillo-López, 2018), while soft tissues (fruit) contain 80% water (Cordenunsi et al, 2010).…”
