Abstract: The aim of the present study was to determine if there is an association between the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) and apolipoprotein E (apo E) genes and the serum lipid profile in pregnancy and puerperium. Non-diabetic women of European descent in the third semester of pregnancy (N = 120) were selected. Those with diseases or other condition that could modify their lipid profile were excluded from the study (N = 32). Serum lipids were measured by routine laboratory pro… Show more

“…The frequency of LPL PvuII polymorphism was higher in the P2 mutant allele (0.669) than in the P1 wild allele (0.331). The frequency of the P2 mutant allele in Koreans was similar to that among Asians but higher than that in Caucasians (Chung et al 1999;Sepetiba et al 2007;Javorsky et al 2006;Song et al 1999;Kosaka et al 2006;Narita et al 2004;Ukkola et al 1995).…”

“…This is the first study done in Colombia searching for genetic marker that may have an association with stroke in Latin America to date, only brazil have published this kind of studies, finding an association between rs320, rs285, rs328 with stroke development 5 , 8 , 9 . However, in other populations the results changed.…”

“…Rs328 have been widely analyzed, however, results regarding its lipolytic activity and effect as protective factor differ according the population, in some, and they found an increase in lipoprotein lipase activity and in others a 45% increase of the normal lipolytic activity. They found a protective effect in the following populations; French 14 , Japanese 15 , Chinese 16 , Finn 17 , English 18 , Swedish 19 , Brazilian 5 , 8 , Arabic 20 , Dutch 21 , but no in Greeks 22 nor American 7 .…”

“…H-allele frequency ranges from 21 to 30%, while the frequency of genotype HH is 7 to 10%. Previous studies in Brazilians showed the X allele in 12 to 17.8% and H-allele in 28.4 to 34.8% (Almeida et al, 2007;Gigek et al, 2007;Sepetiba et al, 2007).…”
