Brosimum gaudichaudii Trécul, ordinary known as mama-cadela, is an arboreous species common on Brazilian savannah with a great importance on popular food and medicine. The yellow pulp of its fruit is very appreciated by the children because its like a chewing gum. This work presents the morphoanatomical and histochemistry characterization of the inflorescence, fruit and seed of B. gaudichaudii. The material we… Show more

In the organs involved in reproduction, secretory trichomes have been detected in the bracts and peduncle of the inflorescence of Brosimum gaudichaudii (Jacomassi et al 2010), along the syconium of Ficus species (Machado et al 2013;Souza et al 2015) and in the sepals and hypantium (flower and fruit) of Sorocea bonplandii (Souza & Rosa 2005).…”

“…Genotoxic effects of the furocoumarins (psoralen and bergapten) compounds present in B. gaudichaudii have been reported by Jacomassi (2006). Psoralens intercalate in the DNA molecules resulting in DNA adducts.…”

“…The pyrene may also be multilayered and it may arise only from the inner epidermis and/or subepidermal layer of the ovary wall (Roth 1977, Souza 2006. Jacomassi et al (2010) registered sclerenchymatic multilayered pyrene in Brosimum gaudichaudii Trécul (Moraceae) without the definition of the fruit type. On the other hand, the pyrene was not found in Sorocea bonplandii (Moraceae), in which the fruit was classified as pomaceous type .…”
