Bem-estar dos cordeiros submetidos ao transporte rodoviário e avaliação das carcaças e carnes

Abstract: INTRODUÇÃOThis study aimed to assess the level of welfare in lambs by road transport and their carcasses and meat. Thus, we assessed behavioral parameters during transport, physiological parameters after landing and before slaughter and carcass and meat characteristics of lambs. Four road transports were achieved with increasing durations (1h45min, 3h52min, 7h30min and 10h30min), there were twenty lambs in each transport. Animals body weight was 36.64±2.13 kg before transport. The lambs were slaughtered 15 hou… Show more

“…Water and CG were available to the animals until immediately before slaughter. Animals were filmed during the pre-slaughter lairage to measure the time the goats spent lying (lateral or ventral recumbency), according to methodology proposed by Silva et al (2017). Prior to slaughter, goats had their blood drawn by jugular venipuncture into Vacutainer ® tubes (BD Diagnostics, São Paulo, Brazil).…”

“…Além de ser um bom indicador dos pesos e rendimentos dos cortes, as variações em seus valores podem ser explicadas, em grande parte, pela modificação do peso corporal (SILVA et al, 2017;HIRATA et al, 2019).…”

“…Variables such as respiratory rate (Silanikove, 2000), lactic acid levels (Maiorano, Macedo, Generoso, Curi, Chardulo, Castilhos, Silva, 2016; Miranda-de lama, Rivero, Chacón, Garcia-Belenguer, Villarroel, Maria, 2010), and glycemia are used as indicators of physiological stress (Lima, 2014). These variables can quantify the degree of stress in ruminants since animals submitted to discomfort due to pre-slaughter management will have changes in these parameters (Cottrell, Mcdonagh, Dunseha & Warner, 2008;Lima, 2014;Silva et al, 2017).…”
