Abstract: Resumo: Objetivam-se descrever os músculos do membro pélvico da paca (Cuniculus paca Linnaeus, 1766), mediante dissecção anatômica dessa região. Foram utilizadas dez Cuniculus paca adultas, machos e fêmeas, pesando entre cinco e 10 kg do plantel de pacas do setor de Animais Silvestres da FCAV, Unesp, Jaboticabal/SP. After capybara, paca (Cuniculus paca) is the largest rodent in the neotropical region and the body weight varies from 5 to 10 kg, and may reach up to 14 kg. They are animals that reach sexual maturity at around 10 months of age. The aim of this research is to examine, through radiography, the femur, tibia and fibula of the paca. The animals were anaesthetized for radiographic exams. At 6 months of age, the growth line of the femoral proximal epiphysis ceases to perform its functions. At 12 months of age, there is the closure of the line growth of distal femoral epiphysis. At the paca's tibia, at 12 months old, there was the closure of the growth of the proximal epiphysis. In the distal epiphysis, the closure of the line growth also occurred at 12 months old. At the paca's fibula, the bone activity of proximal epiphysis ceases with only 23 months old. The distal fibular epiphysis ends its development with 15 months. There are similarities and differences relative to the closure of the pacas' epiphysis femur, tibia and fibula comparing with dogs and cats.Keywords: Bones; Rodent; Wild animal; Morphology; Anatomy After capybara, paca (Cuniculus paca) is the largest rodent in the neotropical region [1][2][3]; the adult males measure from 60 to 80 centimeters, from nose to tip of tail, and the females from 55 to 70 centimeters [1,4]. The body weight varies from 5 to 10 kg, and may reach up to 14 kg [2], but it does not exceed 10 kg [5]. They are animals that reach sexual maturity at around 10 months of age [6].The moment of the epiphyseal cartilage closing varies according to the bone, some closing already in the uterine life and others remain present for several years [7]. Still, the whole axial correction deviations processes of limbs also depend on the age at which the closing of the growth plate closing occurs. Not only the non-surgical techniques but also the surgical ones for correction of conformations depend on the physiological activity of the growth plate of long bones [8].There are several recent researches on pacas and they involve teeth radiographic anatomy [10] and the axial [9] and appendicular [11] skeletons, heart topographic anatomy [12], dental eruption for age determination [13] and lumbo-sacral epidural anesthesia [14]. The paca (Cuniculus paca, Linnaeus 1766) is a rodent species, typical of tropical regions, present in much of Brazilian territory and Latin America (Cubas et al., 2014). Feeds on fruit but can consume other vegetables and even insects during periods of food shortages (Dubost & Henry, 2006). It can reach 80cm in length, 12 kg in body mass and 16 years of average lifetime (Cubas et al., 2014). It is importance, in addition to commercial as a protein source, can also take a scientific scope, because the paca has characteristics such as: adequate size, wide geographical distribution, adaptation to varied environments, varied nutrition, among other things, that meet the conditions attributed to the animal model experimental (Andrade et al., 2002).Human occupation in various habitats results in accidents, such as, running over of wild animals, predatory hunting and forest fires, so that wild animals suffer skin, nervous, vascular, muscle and bone traumas. Thus, detailed anatomical knowledge of the species is also necessary for the clinical and surgical treatment of these lesions

O estudo da miologia nos mamíferos é uma tarefa de extrema importância, pois pode gerar informações sobre o comportamento destes animais. Aotus azarai infulatus e Sapajus apella pertencem à mesma família, contudo de subfamílias distintas, sendo assim objetivo deste trabalho consistiu em descrever a musculatura do membro pélvico comparando as duas espécies. Foram estudados 3 espécimes de A. azarai infulatus e 3 de S. apella. Os animais foram fixados em solução aquosa de formaldeído a 10% e dissecados para a evidenciação dos músculos. Após este procedimento, foram analisados os músculos que compõem a coxa e a perna de ambas as espécies, sendo a coxa composta pelos seguintes músculos: tensor da fáscia lata, vasto lateral, quadrado femoral, adutor, bíceps femoral, semitendinoso, abdutor crural caudal (presente apenas no S. apella), reto femoral, vasto medial, sartório, semimembranoso, pectíneo e grácil. Em relação a perna, os músculos identificados foram: gastrocnêmio (cabeças lateral e medial), extensor digital lateral, fibular longo, extensor digital longo, tibial cranial, flexor digital superficial (presente apenas no S. apella), poplíteo e extensor longo do hálux. A organização dos músculos no S. apella e no A. azarai infulatus é similar ao de alguns primatas como o babuíno e o chimpanzé assim como o homem, no entanto essas espécies também apresentaram similaridades com mamíferos domésticos e animais selvagens, diferindo destes casos devido à presença do músculo extensor longo do hálux, exclusivo de primatas por conta da presença do polegar opositor.
