Abstract: Pesq. Vet. Bras. Show more

“…In crocodilians, the thick left chamber could be a justification for greater resistance to maintain stroke volume from increasing blood pressure (Franklin and Axelsson, ). However, this difference has a smaller relation between the Cavum venosum and Cavum arteriosum , indicating the smaller thickening relative to the Cavum venosum wall, which in turn is largely responsible for pumping blood to the lungs in this species (Braz et al., ). In birds, thickness of the compact layer of the left ventricle is five times thicker than in mammals, an adaptation that permits greater delivery of blood propulsion to the muscles during flight (Sedmera et al., ).…”

“…Both the arteries and veins are composed of smooth muscle fibers and elastic fibers, being of great relevance for the distinction of blood vessels by its prevalence in the adventitia and medium tunica (MENDES FILHO and BRITO, 2000). The histomorphological study of the arteries may be related to the ontogeny and behavior of the species (BRAZ, QUEIROZ, OLIVEIRA et al, 2012).…”
