Abstract: Pesq. Vet. Bras. Show more

“…The caudal mesenteric artery location becomes easy to find, as it is cranial to the external iliac arteries and caudal to the gonadal arteries, similar to the findings reported for coypu (Machado et al, 2006), rock cavy (Queiroz et al, 2011), grey brocket (Amadori et al, 2012) and ocelot (Pinheiro et al, 2014). Its small diameter in both the descending part of the colon and part of the rectum agrees with the descriptions for other rodents, such as Spix's yellowtoothed cavy (Oliveira et al, 2015), rock cavy (Queiroz et al, 2011) and coypu (Machado et al, 2006).…”

“…The cranial mesenteric artery, the second branch emitted by the abdominal aorta, vascularizes part of the duodenum, jejunum, ileum and cecum, similar to the descriptions for domestic animals (Dyce et al, 2010) and rodents, such as coypu (Machado et al, 2006), rock cavy (Kerodon rupestris) (Queiroz et al, 2011) and lowland paca (Cuniculus paca) (Marques et al, 2013), as well as in lagomorphs, such as rabbits (Machado et al, 2008). In some cases, the cranial mesenteric artery may originate from a common trunk with the celiac artery, forming the celiacomesenteric trunk, as observed in rock cavy (Queiroz et al, 2011) and coypu (Machado et al, 2006). This red-rumped agouti vascular characteristic feature is advantageous for the species, as vascular complications at this site can occur in a specific area without compromising other organs.…”
