Contrary to our ϐindings, Feitosa et al (2010) reported higher GGT activity in the serum of Nelore calves born to multiparous cows (2,398±2,077 U/L) than in calves born to primiparous ones (1,911±2,336 U/L). In Holstein calves, however, these authors reported higher activity of GGT in serum of calves born to primiparous cows (774±549 U/L) than multiparous cows (673±449 U/L), which agrees with our results.…”

“…Contrary to our ϐindings, Costa et al (2008) did not detect any inϐluence of parturition number in the total protein and globulin levels of Nelore and Limousin calves. However, Feitosa et al (2010) reported that Holstein calves born to multiparous cows presented higher levels of total protein in serum (6.45 ± 1.25 g/dL) than calves born to primiparous cows (6.06±1.18g/dL). The difference between groups observed in our study did not reϐlect an inability of primiparous cows to produce an adequate volume and quality of colostrum for their offspring.…”

Feitosa et al (2010) reported a lower serum concentration of IgG in Nelore calves when compared to Holstein calves at 24 hours of life, and that, considering only the evaluation of IgG levels, beef calves presented a lower FPIT than dairy calves at 24 hours of age. The milk yield is also important, since primiparous beef cows may produce insufϐicient amounts of colostrum to feed and protect their calves.…”

Transferência de imunidade passiva e proteinograma sérico em bezerros das raças Crioula Lageana variedade Mocha e Aberdeen Angus (Red Angus) nos primeiros seis meses de vida

“…Estes resultados reforçam afirmações anteriormente realizadas por Naylor & Kronfeld (1977), Pfeiffer et al (1997), Moraes et al (1997), Feitosa et al (2001a), Machado Neto et al (2004), Costa et al (2008) e Teixeira et al (2012) nos quais estas variáveis foram bons indicadores da TIP em bezerros. A avaliação da TIP em bezerros após a ingestão do colostro tem como base a determinação direta de imunoglobulinas, ou indiretamente por meio das variáveis que apresentem correlação com os teores séricos das imunoglobulinas (Feitosa et al 2010). Observou-se fraca correlação (r=0,251) entre a gamaglobulina e atividade sérica da GGT para a raça Crioula Lageana variedade mocha e forte correlação (r=0,815) para a raça Aberdeen Angus (Red Angus).…”
