Show more

“…The frequency of seropositive buffaloes in the present work (83.9%) was markedly greater than the rate of 54.9% observed among cattle (GUEDES JUNIOR et al, 2008) and the 26.7% found among horses (GALO et al, 2009), in the same region. These differences in frequencies of seropositive animals may be connected with greater susceptibility among buffaloes and with the intrinsic immunological factors of each animal species.…”

“…Guedes Junior et al (2008) found 54.9% (135/246) cattle positives to homologues antibodies to B. burgdorferi. (GALO et al, 2009), found 26,7% (80/300) horses positives to homologues antibodies to B. burgdorferi, both in the same region. On the basis of this finding, the current study aimed to evaluate the frequency of homologous anti-B.…”

“…Lyme borreliosis presents several clinical pictures, particularly, in humans (Yoshinari et al , 1993b; Galo, 2006). In Brazil, this disease was first reported in serologic studies in humans by Yoshinari et al (1993a) and in animals by Fonseca and collaborators (Fonseca et al , 1994).…”

“…Both genera are known vectors of Borrelia spirochetes. In fact, several studies carried out in animals in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Pará have reported the presence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi s.l., as well as the isolation of this spirochete from Boophilus microplus ticks (Salles et al , 2002; Galo, 2006; Madureira, 2007). …”

“…Madureira and co-workers 47 observed a frequency of 28.4% of anti- Borrelia homologous ELISA antibodies in horses in the municipalities of Três Rios and Vassouras, Rio de Janeiro State, whereas the frequency was 26.7% in the municipality of Belém, Pará State 48 . Guedes Junior and co-workers 49 identified 54.9% of cattle as being seropositive in the state of Paraná.…”
