Estimation of evaporation in the Banabuiú dam, in the state of Ceará, Brazil, by different combined methods, derived from the Penman equation

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The state of Ceará, Brazil, has 75% of its area covered by Brazilian semiarid, with its peculiar features. In this state, the dams are constituted in water structure of strategic importance, ensuring, both in time and space, the development and supply of water to population. However, construction of reservoirs results in various impacts that should be carefully observed when deciding on their implementation. One of the impacts identified as negative is the increased evaporation, which constitutes a ma… Show more

“…Through this combination, a better method used to calculate evaporation was achieved. Nowadays, the Penman equation is the most widely used method (Mcmahon et al, 2012;Leão et al, 2013;Giadrossich et al, 2015). In this study, the Penman method was applied to calculate E pa by five meteorological variables.…”

“…Teoricamente, a água absorve calor durante a alteração do seu estado físico, (JENSEN, 2010) ocorrendo assim o processo de evaporação, principalmente durante os períodos mais quentes do dia e nas zonas mais quentes da Terra, como as regiões áridas e semiáridas (GALLEGO-ELVIRA et al, 2012;LEÃO et al, 2013).…”

“…The authors used the energy budget method as a reference, and found that the Penman, DeBruin-Keijman, and Priestley-Taylor methods were the ones that most closely agreed with the energy budget. Leão et al (2013) [28] assessed six evaporation methods while using the water balance as a reference and found that the Priestley-Taylor method performed best for a large dam in semiarid Brazil. However, regardless of their importance for water resource planning and management, no studies on small reservoir evaporation were found in the conditions of the Brazilian savannah.…”
