The objective of this study was to compare three methods of measuring the volume of individual trees used extensively as a basis for adjusting volumetric functions in areas under forest management in the Brazilian Amazon, and verify the influence of species and diameter classes in obtaining the volume of individual trees. A total of 53 sample trees belonging to five species were analyzed and separated into three diametric classes. The real volume (VR) was obtained using Smalian’s method on fixed sections of 2 meters intervals along the stem; the geometric volume (VG) was also obtained by Smalian’s method, but with the lengths of the various sections along the stem. Volume loss (VP) was subtracted from the VR to obtain the usable volume (VA). An ANOVA in a factorial design (5 x 3 x 3) was performed to verify the effect of 5 species, 3 diameter classes, and 3 volume measurement methods (VR, VG, and VA) on the different volumes obtained. The 3 factors did affect the outcome of the analysis, but there were no interactions found between these variables. The volumes obtained by cubic scaling with different lengths (VG) presented a lower mean volume than VR. Although there was no difference between the means of VA and VR, wood loss was 6.5% of the total volume. There is a relationship between section length and volume loss, according to the presence of hollows, twists and cracks in the logs in the largest diameter classes.

Objetivou-se avaliar o corte semimecanizado do Angico em área de caatinga, em Mossoró. O método de seleção consistiu na classificação de três indivíduos por classe, quanto ao diâmetro a altura do peito (DAP). A coleta foi realizada por meio de observações visuais e descrição das atividades operacionais envolvidas no corte de angico, e do estudo de tempos e movimentos contínuos, através da cronometragem de cada atividade com auxílio de cronômetros, bem como o registro do tempo de trabalho efetivo e interrupções. O tempo total de atividade foi de 52,28 min. para o corte dos 15 indivíduos. O tempo médio para o abate foi de 0,74 min., enquanto o processamento de cada indivíduo ocorreu em média 2,30 min. As interrupções durante a atividade tiveram duração total de 6,55 min. A classe 5 teve duração de 17,27 min para conclusão de toda atividade, seguida da classe 3, com total de 15,50 min. As demais classes, 1, 2 e 4, demandaram menor tempo. O processamento consistiu na atividade em que demandou maior tempo para execução, seguida do abate e as pausas. Quanto ao tempo total subdividido por classe, as que exigiram maior tempo para realização do corte, foram as classes 5 e 3.

The objective of this study was to identify the harvesting system applied for Tectona grandis and its adaptations to describe the harvesting activities, characterization of the machines used and costing. The costs raised in this work were divided by activity and cost component. The work resulted in the description of the forest felling, this being carried out using three chainsaws of the Stihl brand, model MS 660 with the chainsaw teams adjusted to the scheme (1+1), an operator and a helper. As an adaptation of the system, the extraction was performed from inside the field to the storage yard, and executed with a Massey Ferguson tractor, model MF 275, of medium size with high axle, 4x2 rear-wheel drive, 75 horsepower and torque of approximately 28 kgfm adapted with a winch and use of drag chain, a tractor driver and two assistants. Labor was the most expensive cost, representing 80.82% of the total harvest cost. Gross profit per hectare was R$ 15,525.00, of which 30.76% was consumed by operating costs, being labor the most significant. Selling raw logs, as it was performed in this work, significantly decreases the price of the cubic meter.
