“…The absolute density of seeds found in the area resembles other studies in semideciduous forests (Araujo, Longhi, Barros, & Brena, 2004;Marimon & Felfili, 2006;Lagos & Marimon, 2012). However, the total density of seed deposition and the number of species in the seed rain are below the values observed for tropical forests (Grombone-Guaratini & Rodrigues, 2002;Hardesty & Parker, 2002;Marimon & Felfili, 2006;Martini & Santos, 2007).…”

“…In the present study, the fresh mass of the seeds deposited under the artificial perches was much greater during the rainy season, which indicates that the plants fruiting during this period tend to have larger seeds (Grombone-Guaratini and Rodrigues 2002;Jordano et al 2006). In Nova Xavantina, Mato Grosso do Sul state, Lagos and Marimon (2012) also found that the biomass of zoochoric seeds in seed traps (with no artificial perches) was higher during the rainy season, and Graham and Page (2012) also showed that the accumulated weight of seed biomass was greater in the rainy season and in traps under artificial perches in comparison with control traps, regardless of the distance from the edge of the forest.…”

“…A maior produção de sementes foi obtida no final do período seco e início da fase chuvosa, resultados também reportados em outras formações florestais (PENHALBER; MANTOVANI, 1997;GROMBRONE-GUARATINI;RODRIGUES, 2002;ARAUJO et al, 2004;VIEIRA;GANDOLFI, 2006;LAGOS;MARIMON, 2012).…”
