O relatório Flexner: para o bem e para o mal

Abstract

Às vésperas de completar cem anos de publicação, o Relatório Flexner e a figura de seu autor são, até hoje, foco de debates e polêmica. Neste artigo, discutem-se os aportes de Abraham Flexner para a educação médica a partir da publicação de seu relatório, em 1910. Apresenta-se uma breve biografia de Flexner. Os autores analisam a importância e as principais críticas e limitações do modelo flexneriano de educação médica. Partem de uma contextualização do estado da arte da educação médica à época da publicação do relatório, chegando aos tempos atuais. Discutem a construção de um modelo contemporâneo de educação médica, considerando as críticas históricas ao modelo de formação de médicos, as atuais necessidades sociais de saúde, os novos conhecimentos sobre como aprendemos e suas repercussões para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem e as diretrizes nacionais para a graduação em Medicina.
