Abstract:Recebido em 9/5/12; aceito em 26/9/12; publicado na web em 24/1/13 EVALUATION OF BRAZILIAN LABORATORIES FOR DETERMINING QUALITY PARAMETERS OF BIOFUELS. This work shows the results of a Proficiency Testing performed by a partnership between INMETRO and ANP. The performance of 49 Brazilian laboratories (using the z-score statistical test) in determining 10 quality parameters of ethanol fuel and biodiesel was evaluated. The certified reference values were provided by INMETRO, allowing a more rigorous assessment o… Show more
“…One of the parameters used to assess the quality of hydrous ethanol fuel (HEF) is the potential of the hydrogen ion, called pH. This quality parameter has been applied to indicate the risk of corrosion in vehicle engines, formation of deposits on metal parts, and clogging of filters, injection nozzles, and fuel pump, so it is of singular importance that the pH is measured from the effective way [3] [4].…”
The pH is one of the quality parameters of hydrous ethanol fuel (HEF), being established by Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 10891 and by American standard ASTM D 6423. The present work aims to compare the measurement systems proposed by the standards for measuring pH in hydrous ethanol fuel and compare them with the pH range found from pH indicators, considered as a standard measurement. The results reveal that the pH values obtained by the different systems used are statistically different from each other and different from the range found by the indicators.

“…A qualidade do etanol combustível é essencial para garantir o bom rendimento do motor. A presença de contaminantes ou pH irregular podem ocasionar formação de depósitos nas peças metálicas, e entupimento de filtros, bicos injetores e bomba de combustível, como também desgaste e corrosão das peças do motor [3].…”
