Show more

“…A series of materials have been applied as the diffusive gel in DGT (Table 3), including agarose cross-linked polyacrylamide (APA) gel (Shiva et al 2017;Zhang and Davison 1995), agarose gel (Colaço et al 2012;Docekalova and Divis 2005;Wang et al 2016), dialysis membranes (Li et al 2003), nylon membranes (Panther et al 2008) and paper-based diffusion layer, such as 3MM chromatographic paper (de Almeida et al 2012; de Oliveira et al 2012) as well as chromatography paper grade 1 Chr and 17 Chr (Larner and Seen 2005).…”

“…Diffusion cell. The determination of the diffusion coefficient of As(V) (D As(V) ) in agarose gel was performed by a diffusion cell similar to the one described by Colaço et al 27 The cell has two compartments (80 mL each one) connected by a 1.5 cm diameter hole. A diffusive agarose disc and a cellulose acetate membrane (2.5 cm diameter) were placed in the central aperture of the chamber and its compartments were lled with 72 mL of source (solution A) with 5 mg L À1 of As(V), and a receptor solution without arsenic (solution B).…”

“…During this experiment, the temperature was maintained at 24 AE 0.9 C. The aliquots were preserved in 1.2 mol L À1 HCl for further analysis by HG-AFS. Diffusion coefficients of As(V) were calculated using the slope of the curve (linear range) obtained by plotting the mass of the analyte ion in the receptor solution versus time, as previously reported by Colaço et al 27 A similar procedure was used to determine the diffusion coefficient of As(III) in agarose gel (ionic strength 0.015 mol L À1 (NaCl or NaNO 3 ) at pH ¼ 5.1 and temperature 25 AE 0.4 C).…”
