Caracterização de argilas bentonitas e diatomitas e sua aplicação como adsorventes

Abstract: Recebido em 23/9/08; aceito em 28/4/09; publicado na web em 6/10/09 BENTONITES AND DIATOMITES CLAYS CHARACTERIZATION AND APLICATION IN ADSORPTION. Five samples of natural clays denominated: diatomite, CN-20, CN-29, CN-40 and CN-45 from Aliança Latina LTDA were characterized by differents supplementary techniques such as: XRD, chemical analysis, adsorption N 2 measurements, infrared spectroscopy analysis, thermogravimetric analysis. Clays were tested in adsorption of blue methylene. All of isotherms adjust in a… Show more

“…Bentonite is a low cost and widely available clay material that contains an abundant lamellar aluminosilicate (montmorillonite). This material displays interesting surface properties for various applications involving adsorption and catalysis even without previous purification . The detrimental presence of some dense silica phases can be compensated by a judicious grafting of dendritic moieties bearing suitable chemical groups.…”

“…[3][4][5] The primary uses for acid activated bentonites are waste water treatment, catalysis, industrial, medical, sorption, and environmental remediation or protection applications. [6][7][8][9][10] However, the microstructural properties of activated clays both determine and limit their potential applications. [11][12][13] Thus it is necessary to take into account the mineralogical composition of clay deposits in order to apply acid leaching at an appropriate acid/clay ratio for the preparation of clay products that retain a layered morphology.…”

“…Estes dados, associados à perda de massa, podem provavelmente ser atribuídos à desidratação e eliminação de cátions interlamelares (Rossetto et al, 2009). Da mesma forma, também foi possível observar no espectro a diminuição das bandas na região entre 450 e 1000 cm -1 , as quais podem ser atribuídas à ligação entre silício, oxigênio e alumínio.…”
