Estudo da Determinação dos Grupos Silanóis ( º Si-OH) em Sílica: Aplicação à Materiais de Recheio Utilizados em Cromatografia Gasosa

Abstract:   Si-OH) in silica as well as in coated chromatographic supports for use in packedcolumn Gas Chromatography. After adsorption of 10 µ µ µ µ µg/mL methylene blue, centrifuging action and filtration, the absorbance of the solution was inversely proportional to the silanol quantity. The difference between the absorbance of the pure solution and that of the solid -free filtrate was related to the silica weight, yielding a quantitative analysis of these groups. Keywords: methylene blue; silanol group; UV-Vis spect… Show more

“…The hydroxyl content of silica is one important factor in regard to many of its applications since it determines surface properties (adsorptive and adhesive effects), thermal stability (e.g., crucibles used at high temperatures), and optical transmission (fiber optics). Among the methods published to characterize Si-OH in silica are (midand near-) infrared [1][2][3] and visible spectroscopy, 4 spectroscopic ellipsometry, 3,5 photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS), 6 photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), 7 secondary ion mass spectrometry (static SIMS), 8 and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). 9 In the mid-infrared (MIR) region the Si-OH groups show fundamental vibrations in the range between 3500 and 3800 cm Ϫ1 .…”
