The influence of two managements on yield and quality of plagiotropic mini-cuttings of four cacao clones was evaluated. The design was completely randomized in a 4 x 2 factorial scheme with 4 clones x 2 mother plant management (apical pruning and bending), with 10 replicates and one plant as experimental unit. Seedlings used were propagated by rooting of semi-woody cuttings of plagiotropic branches and at seven months of age, two seedlings of each clone were transplanted to 12 L pots filled with organomineral substrate. After transplantation, the apex of one of the plants was cut based on the count of the first six leaves from the apex. For bending, stems were folded and horizontally fixed. The first collection of mini-cuttings was performed 30 days after transplantation and the others during the following seven months. The yield of mini-cuttings was estimated during collections and part was used for rooting and quality evaluation of seedlings. After 90 days, 10 mini-cuttings of each clone were evaluated for quality using the Dickson quality index (DQI). Another 10 rooted mini-cuttings were transplanted to 1.5 L polyethylene bags and kept in greenhouse for another 120 days until final quality evaluation at 210 days. Data were submitted to analysis of variance and Tukey test at 5% probability. Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Pearson correlation analysis were performed. bending was more efficient in the average production of mini-cuttings especially for BN 34 clone. The Dickson quality index was correlated with root dry mass, at both 90 and 210 days, and the bending technique was responsible for the best DQI. Variable height was not adequate to estimate the quality of cocoa seedlings.

-Introduction. Papaya is one of the very few fruit crops multiplied by seed. Unfortunately, the use of seedlings hampers the preservation of favorable plant characteristics and delays the appearance of the first flowers. In addition, the polygamous nature of papaya imposes planting 3-4 seedlings per hole in order to be certain of obtaining the right sex type. These shortcomings can be circumvented by clonal multiplication. This work aimed to multiply selected papaya cultivars from cuttings using the rooting promoting auxin indole-3-butyric acid (IBA). Materials and methods. Two experiments were conducted; the first one followed a completely randomized factorial design, with cultivars 'Golden' and 'Uenf/Caliman 01' as levels of the first factor, and 0, 500, 1,000, 1,500, and 2,000 ppm IBA as levels of the second factor. In this first trial, rooted cuttings of 'Uenf/Caliman 01' were taken to the field and compared to seedlings soon after planting and 4.5 months later. In the second experiment, IBA levels were increased aiming to enhance rooting percentage. Physiological assessments of rooted cuttings were also performed in this second experiment. Results and discussion. A concentration of 3,000 ppm IBA gave the best results for 'Golden', while lower concentration (1,500 ppm) seemed indicated for 'Uenf/Caliman 01'. Rooting success in 'Uenf/Caliman 01' was improved by using cuttings obtained from beheaded mother plants. The analyses showed that a few roots were sufficient to maintain good water status and photosynthetic rate in new plantlets. Conclusion. Plants propagated from cuttings had early flowering and produced first fruits at a lower height than seedlings in the field.

The development and improvement of fruit processing technologies in powder form is a alternative to add value to the product and increase the income of the producers, being required the knowledge of physicalchemical properties of the product. The aim of this study was to determine the physical-chemical properties of soursop powder obtained by foam-mat drying. To the foam formation, albumin was added to the pulp at concentration of 7.43% in mass and subjected in mixer for 15 min; then, it was spread onto trays forming a thin layer about 5.0 mm thick, and the drying conditions were: 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 °C, 5.6 m s -1 and 60%. Moisture content, water activity, titratable total acidity and hydrogenic potential of soursop powder indicate good stability of the product obtained by foam-mat drying, without the need of addition of preservatives for its conservation. Reducing sugars increased with increasing drying temperature due to the concentration of the compounds caused by moisture content reduction. In addition, the color was the physical-chemical property that presented greater sensitivity to drying, mainly by darkening index. Temperatures lower than 60 °C indicate higher preservation of initial characteristics for soursop powder. Besides that, bulk density, true density, porosity and repose angle increased subtly with drying temperature.
