Androgenic response of Brazilian wheat genotypes to different pretreatments of spikes and to a gelling agent

Abstract: -The objective of this work was to analyze the androgenic response of Brazilian wheat genotypes to different pretreatments of the spikes, prior to the culture of isolated microspores, and to the effect of a gelling agent in the induction culture medium. Five genotypes were evaluated for embryo formation, green plant regeneration, and spontaneous chromosome duplication. Wheat spikes were subjected to two pretreatments: cold, at 4°C for 21 days; and 2-hydroxynicotinic acid, at 32°C for two days. Culture media we… Show more

“…Finally, we also highlighted a novel reactivity marker using the viable microspores detected in the P3 polygon by IFC technology to predict embryo yields in Pavon microspore suspensions. With an average of 13.5 embryos per 10,000 microspores, Pavon's embryo yields in our study fit with the other yields published for this genotype, which corroborate the reactivity threshold we set up [62,63]. To our knowledge, this is the first time that embryo yields have been predicted early and reliably in androgenesis.…”

“…Three wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes (Brilhante, PF37 and PF62) were used in this study (Poersch-Bortolon et al, 2016). Fifty seeds per meter in 15 cm row distance (five rows per container) were sown on May 12, 2016 into six containers (two containers per genotype) in a randomized block design.…”
