Abstract: -The objective of this work was to verify if the induced resistance mechanism is responsible for the capacity of a phylloplane resident bacteria (Bacillus cereus), isolated from healthy tomato plants, to control several diseases of this crop. A strain of Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato was used as the challenging pathogen. The absence of direct antibiosis of the antagonist against the pathogen, the significant increase in peroxidases activity in tomato plants exposed to the antagonist and then inoculated with … Show more

“…These results confirm the antibacterial activity of the sanitizer against the phytobacteria, which was already expected, since quaternary ammonium based compounds possess fungicidal, bactericidal, algicidal and virucidal action (Mcbain et al, 2004;Oosterhof et al, 2006;Abreu et al, 2008). The antagonists probably acted on the reduction of the pathogen population by multiple mechanisms, such as competition for space and nutrients, antibiosis, and, possibly, resistance induction (Lindow & Brandl, 2003;Monier & Lindow, 2004Halfeld-Vieira et al, 2006).…”

“…It involves the activation of plant latent defense mechanisms in response to treatment with biotic agents like viable or inactivated microorganisms (STANGARLIN; PASCHOLATI, 1994) or abiotics like aminobutyric acid, 2,6-dichloroisonicotinic acid and benzothiadiazoles (HALFELD-VIEIRA et al, 2006). Plant resistance to pathogens can be and have been obtained from the application of synthetic chemical products on the plants.…”
