The Membracidae are a relatively diverse group with nearly 400 genera and 3200 species. For Colombia 93 genera and 394 species were previously known. Study of the literature and 3744 specimens deposited in ten colections in Colombia, as well as non-systematic collections and field observations done in Colombia between 2011 and 2014, led us to record 116 genera and 474 species grouped in 9 subfamilies and 23 tribes, distributed in 24 departments. Thirteen genera were new country records. In addition, 1449 records of host plants and 262 records of associated Hymenoptera were obtained from literature, the examined collections and new, non-systematic field trips. For each genus a differential diagnosis is presented, as well as notes on biology, distribution and some taxonomic comments. Illustrated keys for the genera of Colombian Membracidae and known distributional maps are given. After examination of several Anobilia species, we propose the new combinations Stilbophora flava (Tode, 1966) n. comb., Stilbophora luteimaculata (Funkhouser, 1914) n. comb., Stilbophora sagitatta (Tode, 1966) n. comb., Stilbophora silvana (Tode, 1966) n. comb., Stilbophora tripartita (Fairmaire, 1846) n. comb., and Stilbophora variabilis (Tode, 1966) n. comb. The male of Sakakibarella sinuosa Creão-Duarte is described.

An updated checklist of treehoppers (Hemiptera: Membracidae) of Panama is provided with known province distribution data. The world catalogue of Membracoidea, through April, 1997, lists 68 genera, 162 species, and 1 subspecies from Panama (McKamey, 1998). Flynn (2012) listed all known species from Panama, documenting range extensions for 29 genera, 107 species, and 1 subspecies previously unknown from Panama, bringing the treehopper fauna from Panama to 97 genera, 269 species, and 2 subspecies. Inspection of 768 additional specimens since 2012 (new total of 3,595 specimens for the study), in addition to published literature, has added 2 new genera and 40 new species bringing the treehopper fauna to 100 genera (increase of 3 genera), 313 species (increase of 44 species) from 2012, and 2 subspecies. Many new provincial sites were added to each species with an updated provincial map showing numbers of species in each province. Updated species counts per Province (with increase): Bocas del Toro 65 (+10), Chiriqui 162 (+11), Veraguas 26 (+3), San Blas 8 (+1), Herrera 9 (+1), Darien 72 (+13), Los Santos 4 (+1), Cocle 43 (+9), Colon 187 (+79), and Panama 150 (+32). Tables listing published checklists and keys for Nearctic and Neotropical treehoppers are presented.

The first list of Aetalionidae and Membracidae species for western Acre is presented, including the Alto do Juruá regions of Serra do Divisor National Park and the Campus Floresta of the Federal University of Acre. In total, 94 species of treehoppers were collected, of which Centrotinae (Membracidae) is recorded for the first time for Brazil (Abelus maculatus Schimidt), another 16 species are new Brazilian records, and 69 species (Aetalionidae and Membracidae) are new records for Acre. Data on type locality, geographic distribution and images of all species are presented. The males of Lophyraspis fenestrata Sakakibara & Creão-Duarte and Erechtia sanguinolenta (Fairmaire) are known for the first time. The species diversity was compared to four other treehopper surveys in the Amazon region, with similarity indices of about 43.6% for Colombian Amazon (at least 650 km away), 27.6% for Panguana Biological Research Station, Peru (250 km), 20.2% for Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve, Brazil (1,600 km) and 8.5% for Villa Carmen Biological Station/Los Amigos Biological Station, Peru (600/700 km). The estimated richness of Serra do Divisor National Park was just over 70%, suggesting that local diversity could be significantly higher than that presented in this study.
