The first ocydromiine hybotid fly is described and illustrated from a remarkable male preserved in mid-Cretaceous amber from northern Myanmar. Pouillonhybos venator, gen. et sp. nov., is distinguished from other members of the subfamily Ocydromiinae as well as other lineages of living and fossil Hybotidae. The holotype of P. venator exhibits spectacular specializations of the mid and hind legs, modifications likely linked to the grasping of prey either during capture and/or while feeding. The species reported here is the earliest evidence of significant leg modifications in Hybotidae indicating an early appearance of such specializations in the family's history.

The following sixteen new species of Oropezella from Brazil and Costa Rica are described and illustrated: Oropezella aquila sp. nov., O. arcuata sp. nov., O. bicolor sp. nov., O. bipunctata sp. nov., O. clavata sp. nov., O. costaricensis sp. nov., O. falcata sp. nov., O. flavida sp. nov., O. granulosa sp. nov., O. longifrons sp. nov., O. planti sp. nov., O. plaumanni sp. nov., O. rafaeli sp. nov., O. spathula sp. nov., O. uncata sp. nov. and O. undulata sp. nov. A new combination is proposed: Oropezella amazonica (Rafael & Ale-Rocha, 1990) is transferred from Ocydromia. Additionally, an identification key to all 25 Neotropical and Andean species of Oropezella is provided. A cladistic analysis of Oropezella using 29 species from the Neotropical, Andean, Palearctic and Neozelandic regions is performed and its results and implications discussed.

A catalog of the Hybotidae of Chile is provided. We present all valid names and synonyms for the 27 species and 10 genera distributed in the country, including information about name, author, year of publication, page number, type species, type depository, type locality and references. The geographical distribution of the species was recorded from bibliographic data and revised collections. Two species previously recorded for the Hybotidae fauna of Chile must be deleted: Drapetis armipes Bezzi, described from Tacna – Peru, and Ocydromia philippii Bigot, a synonym junior of Hyperperacera nemoralis (Philippi), now in Brachystomatidae (Trichopezinae). Bicellaria collina (Philippi) and Austrodromia? valdiviana (Philippi) are maintained in Hybotidae waiting for clarification of correct taxonomic assignment.
