Abstract:In the present work we aimed to describe the spatio-temporal and ontogenetic variations of Astyanax janeiroensis diet in Ubatiba stream, a coastal fluvial system from Serra do Mar. We analyzed 540 specimens collected monthly during twelve months in six sites differing in the degree of vegetal cover (opened and closed sites). We verified that A. janeiroensis is an omnivorous species whose diet is largely based on autochthonous items. The estimated intestinal coefficient was 0.74 (+ 1.2), being compatible with an omnivorous behavior. We did not register differences in the diet from dry and rainy seasons. Nonetheless, we found differences in the diet from opened and closed sites. We registered quite absolute predominance of autochthonous items in the diet from the closed sites, whereas, in the opened ones we found similar ingestion of alo and autochthonous items. Concerning juveniles and adult specimens, we found differences in the consumption of animal and vegetal items with a relative reduction of animal ingestion among adult specimens. Resumo:No presente trabalho tivemos como objetivo descrever as variações espaço-temporais e ontogenéticas da dieta de Astyanax janeiroensis do Rio Ubatiba, um riacho costeiro da Serra do Mar. Analisamos o conteúdo gástrico de 540 exemplares capturados mensalmente, durante 12 meses, em seis localidades, sendo três com cobertura (localidade fechada) vegetal e três sem cobertura (localidade aberta). Verificamos que A. janeiroensis é uma espécie onívora, com dieta essencialmente baseada em itens autóctones, majoritariamente de origem vegetal. O coeficiente intestinal da espécie foi estimado em 0,74 (+ 1,2) que é um valor compatível com o hábito alimentar onívoro. Não foram registradas diferenças na dieta dos exemplares coletados durantes as estações seca e chuvosa. No entanto, foram registradas diferenças na dieta dos exemplares coletados nas localidades aberta e fechada. Nas localidades fechadas houve predominância quase absoluta de itens autóctones, enquanto nas localidades abertas houve participação equivalente dos itens alóctones e autóctones. Aim:The aim was to compare the kinetics of decomposition and the colonization of leaf litter of two plant species, the native Talauma ovata (pinha-dobrejo) and the exotic Saccharum officinarum (sugarcane), by aquatic macroinvertebrates; Methods: From each substrate, three recipients of colonization were taken from a stream, and the specimens identified to the lowest taxonomic level on days 7, 15, 34, 44, 61 and 75. The debris was weighed at the beginning and end of the experiment and determined their cell wall fractions; Results: The coefficients of mineralization indicated higher velocity decay of organic matter refractory in T. ovata. There was no difference in taxonomic structure of macroinvertebrates, between the two substrates, but the community exhibited distinct functional feeding groups in the peak of colonization, with a greater number of shredders in T. ovata. The successive states of decomposition of the two plant detritus showed distinct macroinvertebrate densities; Conclusions: The amount and state of the plant biomass were important factors influencing the density and diversity of the macroinvertebrate fauna throughout the process of organic decomposition.

-We evaluated the concordance between assemblages of Ephemeroptera and Trichoptera to verify if they respond similarly to environmental gradients in the basin of Suia´-Missu river in Mato Grosso, central Brazil. We tested the predictions that: (i) the distributional pattern of mayfly and caddisfly larvae is concordant along the spatial and (ii) environmental variation along the basin, and if (iii) taxa are concordant between themselves along the seasons and with the environmental gradients disregarding the seasons of the year. We found a concordance between species composition of mayfly and caddisfly in fall-water and rainy period, when analyzed separately by each season. The concordance between environmental variables and the two taxa analyzed separately also was concordant, but only on the fall-water season. Finally, we found congruence when both analyzed groups disregarded the temporal effect, but it was less representative than when we consider the seasons variation. Our results suggest that the hydrological cycle could be a driver of changes in species composition of mayflies and caddisflies.
