Objective: to analyze the association between the environment of nursing practices and work satisfaction in Intensive Care Units (ICU). Method: a cross-sectional study was performed in eight adult ICUs of a public university hospital between 2012 and 2015. The Nursing Work Index-Revised (NWI-R), in their short forms, and the Index of Work Satisfaction (IWS) were applied to investigate the environment of nursing practices and work satisfaction, respectively. Results: a total of 100 (34.84%) nurses and 187 (65.15%) nursing assistants/ technicians participated in this study. The environment was favorable for autonomy and relationships and it showed vulnerability for control of practices and organizational support. The IWS score indicated low work satisfaction. "Environment of practices", "length of work in the ICU" and "willingness to work" were associated with work satisfaction. Conclusion: to invest in the environment of practices, in factors that promote willingness to work and length of experience in the ICU increases nursing work satisfaction.

Objective: Verify demographic and clinical factors associated with patient safety incidents among elderly people in intensive care. Methods: Retrospective study of 112 medical records of elderly people admitted to an intensive care unit in 2015. The data were collected from January to June 2016, using: a form for population characterization; the Simplified Acute Physiology Score II; the Charlson Comorbidity Index and the International Classification for Patient Safety; analyzed by multiple linear regression (p < 0.05). Results: Length of stay increased all types of no harm incidents, general adverse events, clinical process/ procedure and infection. There was a higher number of nutrition-related no harm incidents among men, and administration-related adverse events among women. The age group of 69 to 70 years increased the number of medication-related no harm incidents. Hospitalization for clinical reasons increased behavior-related no harm incidents, whereas for surgical reasons it boosted the number of infection-related adverse events. Conclusion: Length of stay; sex; age group and hospitalization were associated with increased no harm incidents and adverse events.

RESUMOObjetivo: conhecer publicações sobre o monitoramento de eventos adversos em pacientes internados na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva. Método: trata-se de estudo bibliográfico, tipo revisão integrativa, de artigos publicados entre 2013 e 2017, indexados nas bases de dados LILACS, BDENF, MEDLINE e Science Direct. Realizou-se a análise crítica e descritiva, classificando os artigos pelo nível de evidência. Apresentaram-se os resultados em forma de figura. Resultados: incluíram-se 21 artigos, 80% em inglês, a maioria extraída da MEDLINE, com evidências baixas, provenientes de estudos descritivos, abordando eventos adversos e formas de monitoramento relacionados à medicação, comunicação, estratégias de enfrentamento e educação, fatores relacionados, extubações acidentais, quedas e higiene de mãos. Conclusão: avalia-se que as publicações abordam o monitoramento dos eventos adversos na UTI como um processo complexo, contínuo e de abordagem sistêmica. Recomenda-se o uso de protocolos, trabalho em equipe, comunicação assertiva, educação, desmistificação dos eventos adversos, empoderamento das lideranças engajadas na temática e fomento do conhecimento acerca do tema.
