“…So, there are, in the literature, many works discussing this issue. Cunha et al (2004) present two methods modified in their laboratory to manually identify CoNS and they conclude that methods were found to be highly efficient for routine use due to their high sensitivity and specificity compared to the reference method (biochemical tests proposed by Bannerman in 2003), requiring fewer tests and thus being more economical and faster than the standard method. Here, we discuss the accuracy of automated systems, once they are faster than manual tests, being appropriate for routine laboratory.…”

“…The isolates were submitted to catalase and coagulase tests (16) and were identified according to the recommendations of Cunha et al (17). After identification and susceptibility testing, strains were stored frozen at 280°C in Trypticase Soy Broth with 15% glycerol.…”

“…From the 300 staphylococci isolates of bovine mastitis cases twenty-two different species were identified through the phenotypic technique proposed by Kloos & Schleifer (1975), modified by Cunha et al (2004) and genotypic technique carried out by sequencing of the rpoB gene.…”

“…The significance of S. aureus was well recognized not only to to animal health as well to human health. It is also imperative to point out the relevance of those other species to public health in view of the fact that S. epidermidis frequency among human isolates ranged from 43% to 92%, depending on the geographical region where the study was conducted (Ieven et al 1995, Couto et al 2001, Vuong & Otto 2002, De Paulis et al 2003, Spanu et al 2003, Cunha et al 2004, Caierão et al 2006. Among hospitalized Brazilian patients Pereira (2014) studying 300 CoNS isolated by blood cultures from verified that S. epidermidis was the most frequent identified specie (74.3%) and followed by S. haemolyticus 27 (9.0%), S. hominis 22 (7.3%), S. warneri 14 (4.7%), S. lugdunensis 9 (3.0%) e S. capitis 5 (1.7%).…”
