Abstract: Raillietina (Raillietina) guaricanae n. sp. is described from the wild rats Oryzomys intermedius, O. nigripes and O. ratticeps, captured in the Environmental Protection Area of Guaricana, from November 1988 to December 1989. Raillietina (Railietina) guaricanae n. sp. is closely related to the Neotropical mammalian Raillietina, however it differs by the fewer number of rostellar hooks, and tests different number of eggs capsules and host species. The number of known species of Raillietina (Raillietina), parasit… Show more

“…Cases without SD indicates one specimen infected. Life cycles classifications were based on Taylor et al Mean abundance and mean intensity of the helminths followed by standard deviation, minimum and Maldonado, 2018 and the cestode Raillietina guaricanaeCésar & Luz, 1993 (Table 2). In O. nigripes, we observed two species: the nematodes G. zetta and Stilestrongylus lanfrediaeSouza, Digiani, Simões, Luque, Rodrigues-Silva & Maldonado, 2009…”

“…In Brazil, there has been a single report of cestodes parasitizing rodents of the family Cricetidae. César & Luz (1993) described a new species of the genus Raillietina in rodents of the genus Oryzomys Baird in Paraná State, Brazil. These samples, deposited in the CHIOC, were analysed for comparative purposes, displaying unilateral genital pores, characteristic of the genera Raillietina and Paroniella .…”

“…R. sigmodontis Smith, 1954 from Sigmodon hispidus in the USA has rostellar hooks of a similar length but has fewer rostellar hooks, fewer testes, fewer egg capsules per proglottid and a greater number of eggs per capsule (see Smith, 1954). R. guaricanae Cesar & Luz, 1993 from Oryzomys spp. in Brazil (Cesar & Luz, 1993) has fewer and longer rostellar hooks and a greater number of egg capsules.…”
